whats a good number of max uploads and upload rates to have? im new at this

There is no fixed number. Too much upload speed will affect your DL rate. I like to do 1/4 of my limit since we have 4 people sharing DSL.

if i just put everything down to 0, will i download faster?

You can try selecting unlimited. In fact, your DL rate is also proportional to your upload rate. However, you're only as fast as your source(s). Play with the settings. If you notice that you're having problems surfing the web while BT is running, your upload rate is probably too high.

If u are using shawdows 0 means unlimited and most likely your upload will go faster than your DL.
