Have you tried Dell (http://www.dell.com)? They have decent laptops. For rebates I would suggest checking this website regularly TechBargains (http://www.techbargains.com) & TechDeals (http://www.techdeals.net)

If you are in U.S. wait until Thanksgiving. There are tremendous big rebates around that time. Check those sites out and then make a decision.

As For Pricing=

Here is what I found. (http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=1560447&ut=4157baec5ba9103c&found=2&search=%20Presario%20X1030US)

For reviews, I found this one review at amazon. Just search for the model number and you will get the page for it.

A superb machine, it is all I can ask for in a laptop., November 14, 2003

Like I said, this is all I could ask for in a laptop. the battery life is great. The centrino processer is faster then a pentium 4 (of which i've had 2 previous). Size is great. I would wish for a higher resolution display... but this one is good, if high res is needed an external moniter can be bought. Overall tihs is the best, of four, laptop I've owned. You can actually play games, which you can't on most laptops and run graphics intensive programs.

All in all, a very good choice.

Thats the quote from the page.

Also, It had these rebates from compaq.

Looks solid, and a wide range of pries, and some rebates, and one good review, (out of 1 I found).

I would think so moose. Also I dont think the centrino is very good with games, or real fast. Its made more for people who are on the go alot and dont need alot of power.

Then take a look at a BestBuy or CompUSA booklet, they got some good offers every week. And don't be so overconcerned with "what's a good notebook". Most notebooks these days are fast enough to open large files and edit weg pages.

I do some web page editing and I run Dreamweaver MX 2004 on an old Pentium 3 and that's more than enough! And about the gaming part; just make sure it has a decent CPU and a Mobility Redeon or GeForce GO with at least 64 MB RAM (128 MB would be better)!

This one should do every thing and more. It is better than my desktop. And it is under 1500
