Well Mary, I watched it. It was good - I liked the bit where I drifted off thinking about being punished by Michael Fassbender :smilie4:
Also I didn't realise Keira Knightley could act, so that was a pleasant bonus. So thanks for recommending her tits to me out of off of that one scene, it was well worf it x

Really? You actually liked the movie? I really thought I would have loved it prior to the initial viewing, but found myself just skipping ahead when I saw they cared not for any transitional segments. I had to go back and forth to make sure I didn't miss KK's pepperoni, but I'm still not really sure how I felt about the whole thing.

That's crazy, I totally responded to squeam's comments without reading yours. The use of KK and the fixation on the areolae were completely unintentional (coincidentally speaking). I had one of these moments with manker once but we didn't end up having gay sex afterwards. You won't cyber with me, so I guess it's not going to happen here either :(

But knowing you, you'd probably come up with something like "I never thought I'd find someone else who abbreviates the Klan's name the same way I did. I've been gently inserting it into the Klan's children for a few years to have it catch on before my demise."

Excuse me queers, back to the topic in hand.
Yeah I thought it was a good film. It reminded me a bit of mine and Dave's relationship only with the gender roles reversed. And less balustrades. Like Jung I too have been gone on to become a professionally successful, emotional husk.
I didn't pick up on the lack of transitory elements. I didn't feel anything was 'missing'. It was about a disjointed and lengthy love affair primarily so I guess it had to be that way.
Oh, and am up early because I've had sufficient sleep to render me fully rested. I'm laying in bed typing this on my phone until I get so hungry I have to get up.

No, I was being a total pervert. Really actually, and in my quest I found the transitions abrupt, especially when I was skipping around. However, there are truly abrupt transitions even when I left the remote alone. That's all I'm saying. I saw potential for something deeper but found its pitfalls and became disheartened. Basically, just a weird boner movie for me. Including aformentioned Anais Nin references.

I have no idea what an Anais Nin is. Is it something to do with breasts?
I probably wasn't following the film with a critical enough eye. I didn't have any prior knowledge of the subject matter so it was all new and interesting to me. I was told by my fellow cinema goer that it was a fairly good depiction of Freud and Jung. He studied Psychology. He didn't think much of it either though.
I liked Freud's total self belief: "you must agree with me, and if you don't it's all the result of the pathology I'm talking about"
Genius!

Anais Nin was something of a disciple of Jung's and a damn fine writer in her own right. She had loads of sexual experimentation with Jung and wrote extensive diaries. She fucked Henry Miller, but then who hasn't.

Some feminist type I was going out with years ago gave me nine volumes of her journals, but I only got to about the second volume before I decided the girl needed elbowed (and psychotherapy). My girlfriend, not Anais Nin. Well, both, come to think of it.

Oh the film never mentioned her! Sounds interesting, she must have been quite a courageous woman when she wasn't being mental.

I think the film highlighted nicely that suppression of instinct causes psychological trauma. Freud was wrong to focus exclusively on sexual repression but at that time that was a massive facet of Victorian/Edwardian society, and he could only remark on what he saw I guess. Shame he lacked the vision/open mind to extrapolate and project from his evidence. Favourite line was Jung: "Have you considered monogamy?" Otto: "for a neurotic like me that would be far too stressful a concept" :)

Have you read much Henry Miller, Chavvy?

I've read enough not to want to read any more, innit. Mostly as a teenager, like. When literary porn fascinated me. I was pretentious enough to think it was better than reading wank mags and the internets was a distant pornographic dream.

I've told you before about how my girlfriend's (a different one) dad (I got around) skimmed a copy of Opus Pistorum I'd left in his house and deigned me a fucking deviant. Incidentally, I found a very good documentary about Miller on youtube recently. It's all anecdotes about the pictures he kept in his bathroom. Check it out or do something else.

Chavois - I read him when I was fairly young on the recommendation of someone I was ineptly fumbling with. I thinkI only did The Tropics books. I remember persevering with The Heart of Darkness because of a similar recommendation. I figured young guys just like all that literary masochism at that age.

Well actually having a degree pretty much instantly elevates you to the middle classes. I am middle class because my parents had already elevated themselves to that level before I was born. However, I can only afford a flat in a working class area and while I lived in a middle class area as a child I was schooled in a working class one, since my parents believed I was smart enough not to need them to jump through the hoops they did to get my sister into good schools. So I have quite a good footing in both environments really, and my friends living in various ghettos means I keep my hand in and my athletic abilities bang up to date.

Right, well that's what I meant  Class is mostly about what job you do these days. In the UK if you don't have a job you're working class. In your country I think people pretty much have to have jobs or they get operated on with rusty fish hooks and axes and die of obesity.

I think she's just part of the privileged class sufficiently removed from the plebeians. She's starting to take an interest, though, so according to an earlier set theme it's internet progression.

Why ever not. It's not like she could over power both of us.
I'd have already taken her up on her kind offer but I'm a little worried I'd end up tethered to some skip whilst being pegged.

I'd summon you with a complicated set of bird-calls if things got out of hand. And then afterwards, I'd do the same for you.
I'm sure that between us both we could sate her :smilie4:

Yes, but us being very long with low differentials, the chance of getting tangled if she doesn't keep the required massive amounts of blood pumping is just too risky. It's been too long since I earned my knot tying badge.

I don't even know if that was entirely accurate, overcome with tension I guess? I've been working on some presentations, data, and deadlines, but have been having a horrible time staying focused on it, hence all my fucking around on here. Then I think I will never finish it. It's been keeping me up far longer than usual, something's wrong with me.

Stress is a VERY real, physiological problem. I think you goofing off here is probably more beneficial than you realize. Just relax, dump the bodies you've accumulated (let the dirt wash away your sins), and relax. It's not like you are finishing a PhD, or anything important. :idunno:

I'm currently working on a 5-person team proposal/project with a major aluminum manufacturer. The deadlines have been nearly impossible, and we haven't had time to even organize "who will do what", and participated in a 4-person paragraph write where we ALL worked on the same sentences together. :pinch:

Life is pain. Get used to it, I suppose... :(

Well, going back to the movie, I should say it was quite good. But I think the main idea was to show unusual people in specific circumstances, the development of their characters and moods, rethinking of their values. It's sad that Freud appears not that often as it could be. Keira Knightley acted very well: she is the base of the whole picture. Perhaps, another actress wouldn't cope with this role.
