Hi, i just wanted to know how to unlock the multiplyer settings on my cpu.

specs are gigabyte 7va mobo and amd athlon 2000+

unlock Athlon XP (http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/AMD/AthlonXPUnlock/) ;)

that one looks risky, anyone else got another way?

They're all basically the same method. Your warrantee is voided regardless.

It's that way or not at all, I'm afraid.

i found this (http://www.modfatha.net/unlocking_athlon_tbred.html) link on google, think itll work?

I simply did it through BIOS.

Have you tried that with your board?

No need for physically altering your CPU at all.

A couple of things to let you know. A large number of nVidia based nForce 2 motherboards allow you to unlock the TBred and Barton with simple BIOS adjustments (we'll explain on the next page). In otherwords, if you have one of those CPUs, you will probably not need to physically unlock the CPU as we've described. For Palomino owners, you're out of luck, as you still need to unlock the CPU. At this time, I know ASUS, ABIT, FIC and Epox unlock via the BIOS, but others may as well. I do know MSI does not.

looks like it should... i am definitly not an expert at the hole unlocking things so i am also waiting to see what the "elite" poeple will say...

Looking at some pics of his BIOS shows some memory timing adjustments but no multiplier settings.

Maybe your easiest course is just to get a nVidia chipset board.

i actually really have no clue how "unlocking" a cpu can help, i have the multiplier as high as the mobo lets it... (sorry for being a dumbfck, but i don't know, and am intrested, but to lazy to reasearch it) :P

oh SWEET!!!(on a role with that word hehehehe :P )

YES this will help a llot my multiplier could go up a bit!!! YAY will try tonight
@ who ever started this, i am going to try the strand of copper thing tonight on my bros amd 2000+ thourobred see what happens!

Here (http://overclockercafe.com/Reviews/other_misc/Speed-Strip/index.htm) is another way to unlock an Athlon XP ;)

i have the speed strip but it is only for certain models of cpus, i did this to my bros, because his is to old for the strip...

mine however does have the speed strip installed and has great results... :P

That viperlair mod is all very well, but did you notice the ram they were using - PC3200. This is fine if you've bought the rig with the intention of overclocking, but if you are looking to overclock an older system you are likely to have PC2700 or even PC2100 ram.

With high performance ram you are bound to get better performance at higher FSB speeds, particularly if you are running synchronously and approach the ram's design speed. But to claim that higher FSB is necessarily the way to go is misleading if you don't have high performance ram (or even if you can't control AGP and PCI speeds separately from FSB).

In this situation, you need to keep your FSB standard, and increase the multiplier to improve cpu performance, since there's not much you can do about memory performance in these circumstances. My system becomes unstable if I push the FSB above about 138MHz (from standard 133), with a cpu speed of 2070MHz (from 2000). I am pretty certain that this is because of the PCI interface, so any increase in performance is going to have to come from multiplier changes.

Fortunately, I've now got a thoroughbred core, so I can just join the pins on the back of the motherboard to unlock it. Once I've done that, I'm going to try a speed of 129mHz with a multiplier of 16 and then gradually raise the FSB again.

Ive overclocked my rig from 1.67 to 1.81ghz (145 * 12.5), increase of fsb from 133 to 145mhz and its stable at this, a further increase of 1mhz on the fsb, causes windows to become unstable. i cannot increase the fsb, without a change in pci and agp frequencies, but my pc seems suprisingly stable  at these speeds, so i want to increase the multiplyers, to gain extra potential off my system, as i cant afford a upgrade!

I have the palamino core, so which mod should i try? will the link i pointed out work?

Edit: gone back to 144* 12.5, due to some instability

He probably did try the "strand of copper thing" and ended up in intensive care.

Let's all send flowers.
