What have you heard about it?

Supposed to enable free communication between users-they say free/no adware when it's officially released in December.

I think it would be a boon to us if it is as they promote it.

I'm thinking of taking a swing at the beta version.

it's from the same people that made Kazaa so my guess is it's going to have spyware and adware in it as well.I wouldn't be suprised anyway.
Maybe you could share your opinion after you tried out the beta-version?

It's made by the people who initialy developed KaZaA, not not the people who 'sell' it now (sharman).

I have heard it's completly spyware free. :)

The program ROCKS! .. the best voice or IP program on the internet by far. its almost CD quality voice.

The key to confusion free communications is, to mute your mic when you are finished speaking. if both parties do this the program works amazingly well

I am concerned the natural (and deserved) bias against "Kazaa" (because of Sharman's idiocy) is interfering with opinions about Skype. If it is advertized as adware/spyware free, I must admit, I'm tempted.

I'm looking around for my mic, but I can't find it-may need to go buy one, as I need it for other things anyway, whether I do this or not.

I'm torn. :(

"Skype works with any firewall, no configuration required"

I wonder what my firewall will have to say about this. I know my reaction is "fuck that"! Nothing happens on my system without my permission.

I've been using Skype for a while, and I'll tell you. It's great! The quality of the sound is absolutely awesome and it's somewhat a revolution in IP-telephone softwares.

Wheter it's ad/spyware-free or not I don't have a clue. But Ad-Aware doesn't find anything. :P

Give it a go.!

THIS IS NOT FROM THE PEOPLE WHO ADDED SPYWARE to KAZAA

its from the people who designed kazaa <_<

To enforce the fact that the developers of Skype are not the same people as Sharman Networks, here is the homepage of Joltid - The owners of FastTrack and the original developers of Kazaa (before the spyware/adware/general crap age <_<)

www.joltid.com (http://www.joltid.com/)

Personally, I've been meaning to try this for a while - I might do soon :D

"The key to confusion free communications is, to mute your mic when you are finished speaking. if both parties do this the program works amazingly well "
what? why not just end the call when your done talking. you can reconnect later. how does the program not run well if you dont mute your mic?

Some people get confused by the few sec delay. or sometimes a echo. Muting the Mic is not ending the call im sure you know that. if you get a echo. its only because the other person has their Mic open. if they mute their Mic when your talking , you wont hear an echo.

If you Mute your Mic after your finished speaking. then the other person can talk without having to hear you breathing and responding 3 seconds late to something they said 3 sec ago. the appearance of a delay is eliminated because you dont hear the other person breathing for 3 secs after they are waiting for your response.

Muting the Mic is like using a walkie talkie. or like Yahoo or MSN. your basically using the "push to talk" option thats in other programs. when the other person is finished talking they mute their Mic. then when you hear them Mute their Mic and Stop talking, you un-mute yours and start talking. just like you would in a Yahoo voice chat.

But thats only for people that are having problems communicating with the Mics continuously on.

ah i see. well, i never had the echo problem.

as i was asking in this (http://www.klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=82549) thread, have any americans had any luck evading long distance charges with this program?? The last time I downloaded something "free" was buzme, if i'm not mistaken. If memory serves correctly, you have to PAY for the call waiting service or it won't work.

What's the hesitation about here,j2?
Even if it DID ( and apparently it does not) have some adware, you can deal with that can't you?
AdAware, Spybot, WinPatrol,etc., etc.

Go ahead, jump in and let us know how the water is.

Well is there any chance that any current Skype users post their usernames somewhere (either here or in their sigs)?

Sommat tells me that not everyone has their Skype and KLBoard usernames the same (I sure as hell couldn't <_<)

I've been to there site, sounds all very intresting but i've go one question left.
On the site it says that the beta-version is free to download and free to use. After the beta-version has ended they will notify how to obtain the ful-package.Does this mean yoy'll have to pay for it after that or does it stay free?(freeware in other words.)

dial-up is the minimum system requirement.
So it's even better to have broadband or dsl.

I use it to talk to my daughter in England. It's so fucking clear that I have to keep asking her if she's still there!

Get it on J2, then post your username, there's a few things I'd like to say to you!

I decided to download it & give it a try, as I know a couple people who use it prior to this thread opening...we shall see.......

*edit* BTW, I found this on the site:

During the beta period Skype is free and helps us to refine and improve our product. Eventually, some features and services of Skype will require a paid subscription or prepayment. Our ambition is to keep the basic functionality of Skype (PC to PC calls) free. More information will be provided once our beta program is complete.

You'll only pay for non-PC to PC services. Why shouldn't you pay for some things? PC to mobiles, PC to landline etc. it'll still be dirt cheap. Someone has to pay to finance these ventures.

I'm still mulling, Billy. ;)

I've decided, at the very least, that I would like to begin by talking to friendlies before entering that arena.

On second thought, I probably wouldn't get a word in edgewise, would I?

Please let them to add some spyware and adware so the
Kazaa-Lite dev team can make a Skype-Lite S++ version of it ;)
