My Ip Address

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to learning about DivX codecs and also I'm learning how to build my own web site.

I'm wondering if there is a way to block my home PC IP Address? I entered an MSN chat room and the top of the page showed my own IP address. It was wierd. I want privacy with my porn...tee hee.

Just because a web page displays your IP address doesn't mean anyone else can see it. Just like those pictures some people use in their sigs. They're designed to scare people by making them think someone knows some personal info about their computer, but it's just info that is gathered and displayed locally. It's not being broadcast to others.

Your IP address and User Agent string (basically, browser identification. Mine is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007) are all readily available to any computer/server that you connect to.

If you want to receive data from a source, it needs to know where to send that data; it needs to know your IP address. A proxy server just puts one more step in the process, almost like a middle-man.

Hate to say it, but those images aren't generated locally (as in "on your own computer"). They may be generated "on the fly", but they are made using the information that is sent to the server when your browser requests that image (actually, it's really just a PHP(?) script that outputs the resulting image).

OK, from the server. But my point remains the same - other users aren&#39;t seeing it.
