When you're on ADSL or Cable you usually can tweak your connection, if you're on a 56K modem you're in trouble I think. :D

Sites:
http://www.pcpitstop.com/
http://www.speedguide.net/

Especially PcPitstop is a nice one; they give you a free tune-up by testing your computer and then advising what you should change.

@Neo:
What are you talking about?
Before I knew this forum I was d/l at 10-20kB/s, now between 100-200kB/s.

BTW: PCPitstop has a little free program as well (I believe TCP Optimizer) which tweaks Cable and ADSL connections.

The same kind of program is Tweakmaster Pro, you can get it for free on Kazaa. :D

No thats fast...I usually only download between 10-20 kbs on all Peer-to-Peer programs.People always posting their speeds of like 500k or more and i'm sitting here going how in the hell.I pay $40 a month for DSL and i'm thinking about going back to 56k for $10 a month because it just seems like it is not worth it.Will try some of them prgrams out. :D

I have ADSL as well and I tweaked it with Tweakmaster Pro.
When you star it up for the first time it gives my you 4 presettings which you can try out.
Test them out and stick with the best.
There are extra options included for finetuning but I'm still too n00b'ish' for that.
But multiplying my speed by 10 was ok for a start for me... :P

BTW: I got all those tips and sites from all the Ardors, Jetjes, El_Jefes and the others on this board, I guess you have to pay more attention!

I'm hearing that more from US users, the funny thing is in Belgium ADSL is considered much better.

Is Regedit.exe easy to use for computer-newbies?

@ Freak: I don't think there's a solution for that, because Kazaa Lite is using all the (little) bandwith you have (but I can be wrong).

REGEDIT is not fot the faint of heart, you can totally scrub your OS if you dont know what your doing,
you can tweak your internet more with REGEDIT, there are some canned programs that do the job but not as good, EX: cablenut..

Last time i checked in the registry you could change default TTL values for TCP packets and alot more ,will that not boost your connect??, or am i more of a dumbass than you??

I personnally think cable sucks... Sure its faster than 56k but I rather go with dsl. Cause I found a great deal to get 1.4 megs per second downloads at $40 and $30 for the first three months...
