Hi, I know 1080i, 1080p, and 720p are HD "standards", but I'm noticing a few 810p posts out there. Might someone inform me as to whether these posts will play on a regular HDTV? I have a Samsung TV with a USB port that reads .mkv files. Just curious as to whether these 810p files will work properly, or if they are only for specialized projection systems.

Thanks for any help, or even a link to help!

Your TV will basically play any resolution. As for the reason of its existence, it doesn't particularly make much sense.

Some people who want to make their files smaller use their ripper or converter to lower the resolution to save space and control the final file size. As long as the height and width are proportional, the video will look fine. A really good 1080p will be 8 to 12 gig or more, a 810p might be closer to 4gig in final size and could be copied to a dvd. Also a flash drive that's formated with fat32 (no matter how big it is) cannot accept files larger than 4gig and must be formated to ntfs to accept them. There is also the up and download advantages to smaller videos.

It would be smarter to go down to 720p with higher bitrate.
