We all know the usual free ones posted here so I won't go into detail into those. Search for the guides here yourselves but I will list the servers widely known out there:

IPv6
-------
newszilla6.xs4all.nl
weathergirl-ipv6.tele2.net <--------------------Still works but lots of missing articles
reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl <--------------------If you missed the sign-up, like me :(, you are shit out of luck now. They closed it.

IPv4
-----

free.xsusenet.com ( You can sign up for multiple accounts. Usually a couple times is all that needed. No need to abuse the shit out of it.)

Ok ones that I have found
-------------------------

Xennanews 91.223.220.236 or test.xennanews.com 8 connections (can do 25 but I do 8) port 563 only! no user name or password needed. **Goes down occasionally but when it works it is great! Tracert goes to XSNews

news.bu.edu 2 connections (maybe more?) port 119 no user name or password needed. **Completion rate not so good. Tracert goes to Boston University duh

jypi.erje.net (IPv6 server) same as above. **Tracert goes to the Amsterdam Exchange and then to Tilaa.net

news.task.gda.pl (IPv6 server) same as above. **Tracert goes to APNIC.net and then to Poland

Newzfinders Tutorial:

1. First off go to the this website address http://newzfinders.com/NewsAccFree/ListServ.php?VERS=1.1.1&BUILD=017&BETA=1

Take note of the section of the link that says "BUILD=". You will have to update that part if you get this message after loading the webpage, "ERROR Il vous faut au minimum la version beta XXX", where XXX is the most current version of the Newzfinders program. In this case, the most current version is BUILD=017.

2. Once you have the correct BUILD number in the link, you should be presented with a webpage like this:

free.news.newzfinders.com20137hospitalier3218262652535531195637 JoursAucune1100 Jours202015-04-1611Ilimitéfree.news.su.newzfinders.comdzkwmf552nzfacc9966@nzffacc.comNZ822708Fzz11195637 JoursAucune1100 Jours262015-04-1510Ilimitéfree.news.ew.newzfinders.comcsg39nzfacc2733NZ563927Fzz11195637 JoursAucune1100 Jours3732015-04-1410Ilimitéfree.news.su.newzfinders.comkdspmj788nzfacc1233@nzffacc.comNZ424900Fzz11195637 JoursAucune1100 Jours12932015-04-1110Ilimitéfree.news.newzfinders.com54668habituelles1498162957132831195637 JoursAucune1100 Jours15722015-04-1011Ilimitéfree.news.su.newzfinders.comtneypw854nzfacc9075@nzffacc.comNZ306509Fzz11195637 JoursAucune1100 Jours11822015-04-1010Ilimitéfree.news.xe.newzfinders.com546nzfacc39270NZ263466Fzz11195637 JoursAucune1100 Jours13812015-04-0910Ilimitéfree.news.xe.newzfinders.com787nzfacc55404NZ377763Fzz11195637 JoursAucune1100 Jours15122015-04-0910Ilimitéfree.news.su.newzfinders.commvdbgq313nzfacc7523@nzffacc.comNZ208941Fzz11195637 JoursAucune900 Jours13892015-04-1010Ilimitétrial.news.nzfaccount.tklemodern029326anwgecvl211911910 JoursAucune10 Jours85?111 MbpsOK11590

That is what it looks in Chrome.

3. In Chrome, right click on the page and select, "Inspect Element". A frame on the right side of the screen should look like this:

159644

Notice the black arrow pointing to, "newaccount"? Double click on the topmost "newaccount" to expand that section for the latest username and password for that particular server. It should look like this after you have expanded it:

159645

4. Now copy that info into your news client. You should be able to double click inside the individual fields and have it select the whole item to copy with your mouse or keyboard.

Note: There are 4 servers now that you can use.

free.news.newzfinders.com (3 connections)
free.news.su.newzfinders.com (1 connection)
free.news.ew.newzfinders.com (1 connection)
free.news.xe.newzfinders.com (1 connection)

Also, if you have copied the latest username and password for a particular server and you get authentication errors, please be patient! Sometimes it takes it awhile for the new stuff to kick in!

End Newzfinders Tutorial

Semi-free ones
-------------------------

Hitnews with the infinite free trial sign-up (Great one to use)
https://member.hitnews.com/signup.php

Tweaknews Can sign-up many times for free trial using different IP addresses and various email addresses, without the need for a Credit Card. After about a month, they flush out the IP addresses and you can reuse old ones. 10GB or

10days or whatever comes first.
https://www.tweaknews.eu/?page=order&product=1

Cheapnews Same as Tweaknews, they even use Tweak servers though, but they are harder to sign-up for multiple times. They require a phone so they can send you a text message. If you have Google Voice, you can use that number once and your cell once. There is a disposable phone number app for Android called "Burner". You get 1 free one and then you gotta pay for more.
http://www.cheapnews.eu/order.php?productid=7

Xennews Infinite free trial sign-up. Sign-up again in 2 days. Again no credit card needed.
http://member.xennews.com/signup.php?product_id=2&hide_paysys=free

iLoad Never Tried it but I will mention it.
http://alphaload.iload-usenet.com/trial;jsessionid=B047967DFC35907838D09372FE40CA9E

Yabnews Free Trial without the need to give CC or payment info or so it seems
http://yabnews.nl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=71&Itemid=75

SnelNL Free 1GB Trial without the need to give CC or payment info. Sign up and select "Free Order" in the payment info area. Might be able to sign-up multiple times.
http://www.snelnl.com/subscribe/test-trial-usenet

Here are few more:

dawn.dmz.cs.uu.nl port 119, 2 or maybe more connections, no user name or password <--------has alt.binaries.boneless but missing a lot of articles.

news.synserver.de port 119, 2 or maybe more connections, no user name or password <--------ditto from above

UsenetBin.net Free service with access limited to only a few binary groups. Sign up using a bogus email such as one from Mailinator.

free.tweaknews.nl Thanks to Highwinds!

Tip: Use the free trail sign-ups sparingly. If you can't get the file using the regular free ones, then sign-up for a trial. Feel free to share info, comments, or whatever...

Thanks for the article Sandman & giving me the heads up on one of them. HitNews & free.news.newzfinders.com are the same so you can use the same hitnews account or newsfinders account on both (meaning more connections. I have been using it in that setup for a while now with the password auto downloaded & updated in SAB.

Xennanews 91.223.220.236 also supports SSL on port 563

free.tweaknews.nl port 119, 4 connections, no user name or password<---------May need a EU IP address for this one to work. I can't get it to work but I have read other people with EU IPs getting it to work (Someone with a EU address want to try and report back?)

I'm in the EU and it works fine here.

Thanks for sharing this :)

Anyone notice that newszilla has been down the past couple of days? Hope this isn't a permanent development :(

Update: It was on my end. My IP changed and forgot to update my tunnel with the new ip.

It's working here at the time of this post. Maybe a problem with your ipv6 connection?

Wow xennanews works like a charm , even with 25 connections. I max my speed. I couldn't max it with xsnews ipv6. Anyone knows the retention of xennanews?

They use XSNews so I would probably imagine whatever their retention is.

Ok then so, it's about 876 days of retention which is more than enough ;) Thanks again!

I was having a problem with my IPV6 connection over Teredo, after some failed attempts of using gogoclient (because it blocks port 119), I figured out that my teredo connection was using the 'teredo.ipv6.microsoft.com' server.

According to this: http://isc.sans.edu/diary/Microsoft+Teredo+Server+%22Sunset%22/16153

As we reported earlier, the host name for Microsoft's Teredo server (teredo.ipv6.microsoft.com) doesn't resolve currently. This is appearantly part of a "test" to measure the impact of the service being turned off. As an alternative, Microsoft still offers the "test.ipv6.microsoft.com" hostname to connect to it's Teredo servers. To adjust your settings, use:

netsh interface teredo set state client test.ipv6.microsoft.com

Changed the teredo server and all works well.

Change your IP and try again.

Edit* Changing IP can help but not in this case. I think they did wise up a bit. need to find alternative routs.

You must renew your account every 30 days now...

XS Usenet Free accounts need to be renewed on a monthly basis. Our free 1Mbit package is and always will be free of commitment and charge. To keep our system clean and give motivated users a chance to profit from our specials, XS Usenet will pause your account every 30 days.

They'll issue you a different username/password after you renew your account. Check the e-mail you used to sign-up for the account.

If you have a vpn, you can use the free tweaknews server, free.tweaknews.nl,if you use a vpn server in the Netherlands. It supports 4 connections and I believe has the same retention as the regular tweak.

I guess they are blocking certain address ranges. I tried an US, Euro, and even a Hong Kong VPN server and got nothing. Count yourself lucky I suppose.

EDIT:

Made a discovery. I put xennanews to port 563 and it works now. I thought I tried this months back and it didn't work but since the server goes down once in awhile, I might of tried it when they were down and chalked it up as a failure.

Am going to change OP to reflect this.

For anyone else with a free XS Usenet account, have the speeds been reduced?

I used to get between 100-200kb/s, don't remember exactly, but it was always in that area and definitely above 100kb/s. Right now I'm getting speeds ranging from about 10-45kb/s, maybe 30-35kb at most but usually in the 10-25kb/s range and occasionally dropping down to 0kb/s while shifting between 0-10kb/s.

I know I downloaded a file within the last 30 days so it was still working fine at least as of early August, but right now it's painfully slow. Is anyone else experiencing that? If not, what speeds are you getting? If it's only on my end then I can't imagine what could be causing it. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I don't really notice if there is slowdown with XS since I am using other servers. I usually can about max out my 30mbps connection with just free servers, so as long as that happens I am not complaining.

Hi all,

The 3 day settings for hitnews:.... is this correct for newsleecher.

once signed up..

free.hitnews.com
port 119

(lets just say 5 connections)..

no username or password required ??

this is the bit where i get confused, how do they know you have signed up if you don't need a username and password? I tried the username and password that i gave when signing up, but this just throws up an 502 error.... suggesting that the username/password is no good....

any ideas chaps? because I have a feeling that one can no longer do the unlimited signups with hitnews.
thanks for any help chaps..

I never said Hitnews didn't require a username and password. You sign up and for a free trial account, which involves a username and password.

.

Free Tweak is still working. Are you using a NL proxy or VPN?

Xennanews looks to be down atm.

I have been having issues with Weathergirl and Hurrican Electric tunnel, "430 No such article" . Anyone else have this issue with Hurricane Electric tunnel and have a solution?

Can confirm that Free Tweak is working, just started a free trial. 8 connections, speeds are great.

Xennanews has been down a lot lately, and even when it's up the connection speeds aren't nearly as good as they once were. Overall can't complain when it's up, for a free service it does the trick

You should be able to use it. The speed is OK but the retention is where free tweak shines. I think it is the same as a paid Tweaknews account, 800-1100 days.

Xennanews has been offline for weeks now. I hope it isn't gone for good. I heard something about the XSNews IPv6 free server run has ended. Could be related? I don't know.

Apologies in advance for posting a question that's bound to have been posted many times before...

Long-time Usenet user, but with files getting harder to find (in my experience anyway), would like to figure out how to make REQuests.

Googled for help, but seems to turn up a lot of old posts, including this helpful one from 2009 (http://filesharingtalk.com/threads/351356-How-to-request-stuff-on-IRC!) that led me here.

Am also an old IRC user, found my way to EFnet, but I don't see any of these Usenet channels anymore there. For instance, i'd like to find a.b.teevee @ EFnet.

Much appreciated if someone could advise as to how to find these Usenet IRC channels. Cheers.

Looks like free.tweaknews.nl is dead now all thanks to the Highwinds acquisition. I updated my guide to reflect that.

So far the ones that are still working are Xenna, Newzfinders, Newszilla IPv6, and Weathergirl IPv6.

The top ones are usually the most recent.

Durer=Duration of the log-in credentials
Stream=Number of Connections allowed
Vitesse=Speed of connection
Ilimité=Unlimited
CombienPrit= I think it means how many connections to that server are allowed overall. Combien is "how many" in English so if the server connections exceed that amount then you will get a refusal of connection I suppose.

Maybe some French national :) can enlighten us on the the ones I have no idea about like :

<PERMETGENERE>1</PERMETGENERE><PERMETGENERENZFPROXY>1</PERMETGENERENZFPROXY><CODEPOURNZF>796</CODEPOURNZF>

anon

PERMETGENERE is either "allow to generate" or "allow generated", depending on where the missing diacritics should be, which makes PERMETGENERENZFPROXY "allow (to generate|generated) [via/through?] NZF proxy". CODEPOURNZF means "code for NZF".

Here's a horribly written user script that will parse ListServ.php's output into something more readable

document.documentElement.innerHTML = document.documentElement.innerHTML.replace(/<NewAccount><Serv>(.+?)</Serv><User>(.+?)</User><Pass>(.+?)</Pass><Stream>(.+?)</Stream><Port>(.+?)</Port><PortSSL>(.+?)</PortSSL><Durer>(.+?)</Durer><LimiteDwl>(.+?)</LimiteDwl><Retention>(.+?)</Retention><CombienPrit>(.+?)</CombienPrit><Date>(.+?)</Date><Locked>(.+?)</Locked><KeepConnex>(.+?)</KeepConnex><Vitesse>(.+?)</Vitesse></NewAccount>/ig, '
Server: $1
Username: $2
Password: $3
Connections allowed: $4
Port: $5
SSL port: $6
Duration of log-in credentials: $7
Download limit: $8
Retention: $9
Maximum global connections?: $10
Date: $11
Locked: $12
Keep connection: $13
Speed: $14
');

FYI, on Newzfinders, you can use the single connection servers (i.e. free.news.su.newzfinders.com) up to 5 times to get more connections from that server.

Just create copies of the same server + details over and over.

Thanks, I appreciate that. In Chrome, I have been using "inspect" on the selected text on the page. It essentially formats it for you like in your screenshot.

I had forgotten about this provider.

The guy who runs it exploits the free trials of various providers. He wants you to use his program to access the servers. I don't know if there is some malware payload by installing it or what but I am sure he is somehow profiting off of it somehow. I have been using his site to get my files for awhile now and to good effect. I can usually max out my 60Mbps connection and have around 1100 days retention too. Every now and again, you just have to replace the username and password so a little work is required to keep it going but is worth it.

True but the overused is the hard part to automate it, if they are not consistent or get blocked.

Even though i haven't programmed in ages, I ought to load up his program in a low-level debugger and find out how his program is getting the password. God his program is god awful, reminds me of a 90's website with all of the multi-color text and the blinking. Me thinks my assembler knowledge might be a little rusty but it'll come back to me. Maybe this weekend I might give it a spin...

He might have been ticked off about the bypass posted here in the open. It's why he went the password route. Even if you find a workaround using your assembly background, please use discretion by not posting it out in the open. We should be thankful for the program although aesthetically it is quite hideous I agree.

For those who are able to sniff the pass, not sure we are gaining anything as we are still having to use the ugly interface :D but +1 to @anon's suggestion of using SmartSniff for smallish tasks like this.

My only assembly background was coding for the old TMS370 processor :whistling never worked on x86

I'm not outright claiming this .exe is malware, but it did trigger against a signature. Someone would need to debug and probe it further to determine if ClamAV is reporting a false positive result. I also moved off windows long ago, and don't have virtualbox on this machine, so I'm apprehensive to run it outside of a sandboxed environment.

Just an update:

This is more tedious than I thought trying to follow the assembler output in the debugger. I have forgotten a lot! Also the password isn't generated until a child window is open and I am having problems debugging that. Ollydbg keeps crashing every time I try to debug the child. I will keep at and hopefully stumble upon something though but it may be awhile.

Free Usenet-servers do exist!

You don´t need any username or password, but the server-addresses are well
kept secrets.

Why?

Because of this free servers support binary-Usenet-UPLOADS (posting) too.

For free Usenet-DOWNLOAD use a new IP and good trashmail, then create two
accounts: One on Hitnews, the second on Xennews. Hitnews gives you 30 ports
valid for 3 days, and Xennews gives you 20 ports valid for 2 days.

Using 50 (!) parallel ports, all your DOWNLOAD needs are satisfied - guaranteed!

The Usenet-problem is not free downloading, the problem is Usenet-binary-UPLOAD for
free. For using normal UPLOAD-trial-accounts, you need a credit-card-number. Give your
number away, and your anonymity is gone!

The free UPLOAD-servers are not very fast. Start your UPLOADS in the evening - go to
bed - and next morning it´s done!

And - of course - any binary-UPLOADER uses this servers for DOWNLOADS.

In any case, if there are ways to post articles for free, however slow, then that's (great) news to me. I thought none of the free services would ever allow it due to spam.

Usenet is older than Internet, and in the 80s we used it as discussion-platform only. Usenet-"articles" are short text-snippets (50-100kb). We sent this "articles" to theme-"groups" stored on thousands redundant servers around the world. Users could subscribe to theme-groups, they are interested in.

Over the years data-speed becomes faster and faster, and the need for storing other things than short text-files came up. We found a way using the old 80s-article-structure for posting software, music, and videos:

Binary-Usenet was born.

(So a ZIP or RAR-file contains thousands of short 80s-"articles")

Today, in Usnenet-Forums you can find the same things, you find in OneClickHoster-Forums too. But all the Usenet-files are online for 3 years minimum and have thousands of mirrors around the world!

If you want to do secure uploads to a OneClickHoster, you can use VPNs from Asia or Africa.

But for Uploading to Usenet-servers, the providers want a subscription - normally.
(And a VPN is completely useless, if they have your Credit-Card-Number)

So the answer of your question is:

For doing Usenet-Uploads they want your data. (Credit Card - Pay Pal - Bank Account)
But Usenet-Uploaders want to keep their anonymity!

MSE
09-11-2019, 05:46 PM
There are providers who allow signup via Crypto currencies though. And you can use pre-paid credit cards. I think there are some providers who sell block accounts that allow posting, so you could get a cheap block with unlimited uploading.

Is anyone still using Newzfinders?

Yes I am but not their actual application. I have xsusenet.com, Hitnew and Newsfinders which I have been using for free for the last 3-4 years without issue.

Created a task in Task Scheduler that executes a little program I wrote that registers a new user account with Hitnews every 2-3 days with the top 100 most popular first and surnames which it uses as the usernames and email addresses.
Used my domain name and setup sub domains like proxy, host etc and pointed the MX record to Mailnesia which are throw away addresses. Mailnesia auto accepts registration links and clicks the URL to accept.
The program then updates my SABNZBD with the new details and restarts the client. I have two backup block accounts which where 200GB and I have only used about 90GB of them.

As Newsfinders use Hitnews but has different IP connections I have multiple connections setup using both Hitnews and Newsfinders and max out my connection without issues.

It's free and it works much like a paid service so I am happy.

Hitnews I have downloaded: Total: 729.5 GB
Newsfinders I have downloaded: Total: 738.8 GB

Neither does mine, despite having been in business for almost 25 years. Here are some tunnelbrokers you can try.

A tunnelbroker is a service that gives you access to the IPv6 Internet by encapsulating packets inside IPv4 ones and tunneling them between two points, somewhat similar to a VPN (but providing neither authentication nor encryption). The following tunnelbrokers use 6in4: protocol 41 encapsulation and static tunnels.

https://tunnelbroker.net/ - from Hurricane Electric. Gives you a /64 prefix out of the box and /48 upon request. Relays all over the world. Requires a pingable IPv4 address to set up the tunnel. Dynamic updates are supported.
https://tb.ip4market.ru/ - from IP4market. Gives you a /48 prefix. Relay in Russia. Asks for a phone number upon registration, but doesn't use it for anything. Dynamic updates are supported.
https://tb.netassist.ua/ - from NetAssist. Gives you a /48 prefix. Relay in Ukraine. Dynamic updates are supported.
https://freetransit.net/en/tunnel-broker-ipv6 - from freetransit.net (AS212895). Gives you a /56 or /64 prefix depending on your choice. Relays in several countries. Untested by me.

You can calculate how many addresses will be available to you with the formula 2^(128-x) where 'x' is the prefix size. The usual practice is to assign one /48 per customer, and let them divide in smaller /64 subnets as they please.

Anyway, I have tested all of these and they worked fine. Setup is easy and only involves running a few commands, but additional help is available if required. The only downside was high latency as a result of not having any relays close enough to my country. If you set up the tunnel in your router, you can have everything in your LAN receive IPv6 addresses from your allocated prefix transparently. In practice, this may be the only way to achieve that for more than one computer or at all, since 6in4 and NAT don't work well together. OpenWrt in particular has built-in tunnelbroker.net support, which solves the problem of having to reconfigure the tunnel whenever your external IPv4 address changes.

I think all IPv6 "test" Usenet servers have closed, though?

XS Usenet is the only free one I know still in operation. Free-Usenet is gone, Just4Today is gone, nntp.pw is gone; free trials either are gone or require a valid credit card for verification. Almost like offering free access wasn't a good business model :P

If you have a bank that allows you to create unlimited virtual credit card numbers you can still sign up for those free trials... ;)

Well, I don't have a credit card, unreal or otherwise :emo:

Also, it seems I was wrong, as Usenet.farm still has a no-questions-asked 10 GB free trial (but disposable e-mail addresses are blocked).

XS Usenet

Free Usenet retiring January 1

As of January 1, 2023 XS Usenet will be retiring its Free Usenet service.

Our Free Usenet service has always been our way of giving back to the community, something we have happily done for many years. There are however high costs associated in human resources and infrastructure with providing this service.
After over a decade of offering Free Usenet service to the community we have decided to completely shutdown our free service. Effective immediately, no new signups or support inquiries will be accepted and as of January 1 all Free Usenet subscriptions on our platform will be terminated.

The funds that we'll be freeing up will be deployed towards our capital expenditure budget for 2023 to support further product development in the VPN and Cloud Storage sector.

We appreciate your understanding and wish you a healthy and happy holiday season.

So long, and thanks for all the articles :)
