So, I grabbed an NZB off this place.
I downloaded all the files and they came in all these weird files with the extension .10.

WinRAR won't extract them properly, and I don't want to have to download another 8GB worth of files.
Please help.

I downloaded this: http://filesharingtalk.com/nzbs/games/pc/108109-Dishonored-The-Brigmore-Witches-DLC-RELOADED

Open the par2 files with quickpar or multipar and rename them. After that you should be able to extract with winrar.

You'll want to open the par2 file with quickpars.

Here is step by step.

130491

1. Open quickpar and click 'open' button at the bottom. (picture above)

130492

2. Select the first par2 file or the only par2 file listed. (picture above)

130493

3. It should auto check the release and than you will have the "rename" option. Click on that button, repair if needed and than open the archive. (picture above)

If you have any questions, let me know.

That is stupid. Alt.Binz 0.39.13 does this on its own.

Ah, thanks a lot!
To both of you!

Is it necessary that I download ALL of the PAR2 files (they're quite big), or can I just download one?

Alt.Binz 0.39.13 can fail when the encoded header is deliberately misnamed. The obfuscated files are tested using the latest version of Sabnzbd and may not work properly on other news readers.

You should get all the pars when trying to repair the files.

But am I trying to repair the files?
Aren't I just trying to rename?

But if so, I'll grab all of them.

That is what Alt.Binz 0.39.14 is for.

You shouldn't need all of the par files. Only the first one, that will still let you rename.

You'll need all of the pars only if there are missing blocks.

This is all (probably) a good reason why 'auto-processing' by routines 'built-in' to usenet downloaders is 'usually' a bad idea, as 'schemes' to 'hide' things (like using the 'auto-rename' function in quickpar/multipar) gives fits to both those 'do it all' downloader programs and folks trying to use them 'properly'.

Basically, stay with the 'manual' methodology and things will 'work out' a bit more straightforward-wise, as folks have pointed out here.

I have a similar problem with what I assume is an intentionally misnamed post. In my download folder I have these sort of files:

149188-0.0
149188-0.0.1
149188-0.0.2
149188-0.0.3
......
149188-0.17
149188-0.17.1
149188-0.17.2
......
149188-3.1
149188-3.2
149188-3.3

I have 613 files named in this way. When I run the par2 files they say all files are missing except for about 5 of them which it does rename. Is there a method of repairing/renaming/fixing this that I need to know about?

thanks

The fix isn't the greatest b/c it's going to take some time, but it works.

After everything is download, you will have to use quickpar for renaming.

You'll see a lot of *.par2.* files. ex. 142644-0.par2.1, 142644-0.par2.2, ... They should be 10KB or less in size.

Run the first *.par2 and within quickpar click the "rename" button, than delete that par2 file.

Now move to *.par2.1 change the name to *.par2 (so remove the (dot)1 in the file for this example) and open it up with quickpar, do the "rename" option again.

Just continue doing this, until you have all of the release. It works, just takes some time.

I think MultiPar is the new way to go. It's better than QuickPar.

100% This. Quite a bit a faster.

Yutaka has said he'll provide source; hopefully this will show up in other software sooner rather than later. I think alt.binz uses a custom phpar, and the sab guys can import or build phpar or par2cmdline-tbb (if one isn't included natively), which are pretty fast too. But I digress.

Looks like you are right, if you just open up one of the pars, for example 142644-1.par2.18 with MulitPar it will work without renaming it.

130679

QuickPars needs the file renamed, MulitPar will work without renaming it. It does run a bit slower without renaming, but it's a lot easier that way tho.

Thanks justlooking for the info.

If this 'scheme' was 'by design'... really (!?!?). Way to many 'hoops' to jump through, they might as well have gone the 'encryption via a private website' route.

Very helpful thread, unfortunately my 'version' of quickpar does not have a 'rename' option??????? or 'repair' for that matter so par files have never worked for me?????
