Yesterday my mothers laptop (HP Compaq Presario CQ61-423SA running W7 Home Premium SP1) decided to tell her that her Windows was not valid! So after over 2 years of use its now messed up!

I've tried all sorts of different things from the net all with no joy so I'm debating what to do!

There seems to be an issue with the serial number on the laptop as when it boots it says there is no serial and this seems to be whats causing windows to think the key is invalid!

I downloaded a Majicjellybean to see what the key is but its different from the one under the laptop, the problem here is that the rest of the key under the laptop is unreadable (Why they put it under the laptop were obvious use will make it erode is beyond me) so theres no way of knowing what it was!

So it seems for some reason the key has changed or is messed up in some way due to their being an issue with the laptop serial, I have no idea what I can do to try to sort this and I'm not sure phone call activation will sort this?

In the BIOS all the details are 0 (Zero) also which is supposed to be some SLIC issue what ever that is?

If push comes to shove I will either get a Windows 7 version from here or try to find a keygen which leads me to my next question, are there any keygens for windows 7 and if not is it ok to get a W7 version from here and install it over the top of the current W7 version?

Thanks

Spoon

Try running DAZ's loader

I have to wonder if this is an early sign that the HDD is starting to lose data, or possibly hardware (motherboard) in early stages of decline. Anything else showing trouble?

Honestly though I don't understand a word that he's saying.

Hopefully someday someone will post about gear ratios or supersets or something and then I'll be on it like flies on :censored:

:censored: being shit obviously.

The other posters are correct. DAZ's Loader has worked for years flawless.

To be honest if its an OEM preinstalled license Microsoft or HP should be able to sort it out free of charge over the phone. otherwise Daz loader

As this poster has said, you can ring HP on their free helpline (I have no idea what it is in the U.S. but google is your friend), and they will be able to assist you. The OEM preinstall partition has become corrupt, it is this partition which has the serial number of the laptop and the OEM pre install licence stored on it. If this becomes corrupt then to all intents and purposes the copy of Windows is invalid, but since HP supplied the licence they can sort it out. If the issue is due to a virus/malware and/or the laptop is out of warranty, be aware there may be a charge for the service.

Or ignore that and go with the consensus and use a loader to do the same job, i.e. DaZ loader like everyone else is suggesting.

i think hp blacklisted their windows 7 keys.
use daz loader and choose hp on all options(you can choose anything else too it doesn't matter I mean you have a legit install)
OR
call hp and get a new key to replace yours

Really.... that's what your fuzzy little mind came up with after I explained that the data in the OEM preinstall partition has become corrupt. You think instead that HP blacklisted the registration key on a Microsoft Operating System.
Now I actually used to do this for a job.... for an HP authorised repair agent no less!

I know the average I.Q. is plummeting around here but damn!
