View Full Version : Writing an automatic grabber program

Hello,

I've started to write a simple program in python that given a list of tv shows i want, when they are released, it will automatically search them on nzbindex and download them.

Now, I know there are many services that provide you with a convenient API to do just that, but most of them ask for a VIP membership(Correct me if i'm wrong).
My goal for doing it, is to make it open source and convenient for any one.

I need your help, although i've been using usenet for like 5 years now, I'm quite a newbie in all regarding to the "scene", so if anyone can provide me some information about the following, i'll greatly appreciate.

When searching on NZBIndex or any other indexer, you many times get scams and malware, I usually use my logic to find the right release, but it's fuzzy and not defined. is there any site that lists the releases, their legit poster, the size , and etc?
does it provide an RSS feed about their existence?

How do websites like NZBsRUs work? they depend on the uploaders who group from indexing sites?

Maybe i'm trying to hard, is there anything that already does this, free?

Cheers

There are plenty of Free indexers.

True, but He will still need a few quality indexers to go to. Nzbindex is a raw search engine with no filtering. It can be useful for an experienced searcher who knows how to filter out passworded crap and spam. Even then, He will need an indexer that can decode the obfuscated headers to get the most out of Usenet. A good indexer will filter out the crap for him.

A few sites have uploaders in addition to automated indexing. It is best if he uses Sickbeard and Sab in conjunction with a decent newznab indexer.

OP if you are wanting to work on a project that's open source, look at nZEDb.

It's a project that started from a older version of nn+

https://github.com/nZEDb/nZEDb

Good group of guys and they are working on a lot of stuff.

Go on their IRC, https://synirc.net/ servers, channel #nZEDb

I see a issue with using a search engine, there is no sorting. So you'll have to pull rss/html pages build a local database and than go through it with Regular Expressions.

Which in the end is just what a indexer does, but you are pulling nzb info from search engine.

If you wanted to help people, I'd say help the nZEDb crew and make it as easy as pie to setup.

Sickbeard and NZBdRone are pretty solid.

http://www.nzbdrone.com/

dRone even supports FST.
