View Full Version : Bitcoins?

Do any of you here have any, or deal with them? Recently I started reading about them because of the buzz that the media had started (the Norwegian dude that made like a half-million dollars on a forgotten stash of BTC's).

They are now actually trading for $1000 a pop.. Weird. Am regretting not hopping on a few years ago when they were a popular method of donating to websites.

Any thoughts?

I dunno what you want bit coins for but I follow the Bitcoins news ( even if it's a few days behind )on here: www.dailydot.com/?q=bitcoin

And I like this one here: preev.com

I too wish I would have jumped on the wagon when they were literally valued at pennies. Damn the hindsight. >.<

Well, if you feel like gambling your money, Litecoin is supposed to be the 'next big thing'.

Note: obviously, like the stock market or even worse, expect to lose money on anything like this IMO. If you make some, be happy. :)

Litecoin is supposed to be the 'next big thing'.

Krugman suggested in his latest column putting all your monies in Dogecoins, and then a redditor said the ghost of Milton Friedman came to him one night & said to do the same. That's enough for me.

I agree. We now have 100's of new bitcoin like currency being launched trying to capture some of the success of bitcoin. It is still far too difficult to buy however - if it was easier I think it would have even more of a take up.

I wish I bought Apple shares when they were below $10 - afterwards it's always easy to pick the right stock.... ;-)

I've been watching the fluctuating proces of bitcoin, but haven't had the guts to invest. Having to physically goto a bank to deposit is the hardest part - especially on a weekend.

For me theres too little transparency as to the origins and controls that guard the inflation and/or production. The math makes sense if it continues as promised, but is there any guaranty?

Can anybody recommend a good place to trade cash for bitcoins?

I missed the boat on these, a few years back I had the chance to pick up a few hundred for a pittance but declined as I thought this would just be another "Online currency" things! Yeah cos that was the right choice! I still think due to it being an internet currency TPTB will do something about it when or if it starts to get ahead of itself!

Bitcoin can't be stopped. It's a global phenomenon that has reached a tipping point. A country or two might ban it, but not the entire world. Not to mention the wall street money that's starting to flow into it.

I cashed out at ~$800. There's no rhyme or reason why the price should even be above $150, let alone over $900.

Personally, I'm mining altcoins and converting to BTC and then exchanging for cash. My computers are on all the time anyways, so why not make a little bit of money at the same time :D

you will use a ton of electricity but it depends on what you think ill happen to any cryptocurrencies future; with bitcoin unless you use ASICS I think the boat has left the shire. Litecoins are an option still...

TigerDirect now takes bitcoins (if you're in the USA). It's very likely that Newegg is going to start taking them very soon. $10K bitcoin when?

While I find the inflation of the "coin" dubious, I find the reasoning behind attacking it (disrupting the powers that be) more than a bit disturbing, as well...

Several lawmakers have called for increased regulation of Bitcoin in light of the currency's heightened privacy, given that they can be traded without using names and are difficult to trace to an individuals.

Buying things that aren't tracked? Who would ever think of such a thing?

There is rapidly declining money in mining (to the point that it may not be possible at all to recoup dollar value on mining equipment any longer) and Bitcoin is not a good medium of exchange as it is naturally deflationary. The problems that will occur with Bitcoin are very similar to the problems that affected the Capitol Hill Babysitting Co-op - deflationary pressure and no new infusion of currency = hoarding = minimal to no value as a medium of exchange.

I'm still kind of confused about this. If it's a currency that is used in real world transactions (through a networked medium) what the fuck is all this business about "mining". I'm going to Google now, but I'll probably give up in less than 30 s.

I recently invested in a bitcoin mining rig, the problem is that it's hard to get your investment back because of the increasing mining difficulty.
But i'm still hoping for the bitcoin price to go up.

I've been looking at alt coins (alternative to bit coins) and there is where the money is being made. You can always convert back to bit coins if needed. All you need is some hardware investment upfront
