Well Im going to build a machine. I have to do this over a period of time because of money. Not enough of it as always... This is to be used for gaming music and web surfing. I have been thinking of getting into some video as well.
I want something that I can upgrade over time and also run the lastest software.

This (http://www.logicalplus.com/gigaviak8so7.html) is what I was looking at for a motherboard.

Please tell me if you have any better ideas or suggestions...

Between now and the end of the year new video cards from both manufacturers will be released onto the market.

This usually drops the price of all vid cards currently on the market that are equal to or bellow the tier of the new cards released.

Thats a REALLY exspensive mobo, and an athlon 64 will also cost alot. If your conserned about budget then how the hell do you even look at that? Go with Kunals setup, thats what im getting after xmas.

Boy Riccochet, that looks like one bitchin' board!

Money must not be that big an issue.

The AMD 64's that I've seen (CompUSA) are $600 (probably available for less, but even so...) and the proper memory ain't gonna be cheap, either.

But, you get that baby built and you will have one BigDawg PC. :D

Keep us posted, please.

does the amd 64 live up to the hype? i heard it didnt.

but damnnnnnnnnnnnnn. the mobo alone is 200 and the cheapest amd 64 i can find is 400 (pricewatch). thats already 600. the memory is gonna be liek another 100. and u said money was an issue?????? i wish i had that kinda cash.

how can you say that? we havent had any 64 bit apps to test it in! i would wait atleast another 6 months before even thinking of buying a 64 bit cpu, as the technolagy becomes more avalible and also the software etc

IMO, it's not time to build 64bit. It's just too new. Let the prices drop and let them work out the problems with 64bit before buying it.

For the time being go with 32bit. It's reliable, fast and way less expensive.

Sometimes the voice of reason is such a bummer.

VB is probably right.

I say f*ck it, go for it.

Someone has to be first, or prices won't drop and we'll never know if it's better.
Isn't the 64 bit version of Windows supposed to be released in Jan./Feb.?

Oh, and Thread Author, if you have the money, then go for the 64 bit chips now, or after christmas when the prices come down a bit. If your looking long term, 64bit is indeed the future, and like someone quoted, it would be about
450 Minimum for the processor,
150+ for motherboard,
80+ for ram (its 400Mhz {3200} I believe)

And the rest is just normal pricing for things as far as im concered, so you could easily spend only say

100 On HD and CD Drive, then maybe
200 On case/powersupply , keyboard, mouse and monitor.

And then however much you want to spend on a video card.

Thats what I was thinking... None of this will be done b4 xmas.. and I dont plan on getting it all at one time.. get a couple of parts at a time then save a little more..I thought about getting something like a allenware machine but that is to much.

I was thinking of doing this over the next 6 months... Looking at some of the programs out the biggest upgrades comming out now look like work on the 64 bit tech..

As far as money goes I can spend 4 or 5 hundard on a part a lot easier than 2 or 3 thousand at one time ...And it might be fun to try and build a machine...

I thoought about what VB said, But if I built a 32 bit machine and the technolagy goes to all 64 bit stuff I will have a new machine just built that cant run the new software..

lol come on poeple, an investment that we will be laffing at ourselfs for hesitating investing... sad... :P looks good, just make sure you don't get caught when they make a better revision of the 64 bit cpu ... that would suck... (ie you might get the proccesor and the mobo at the same time...)
