If you are not used to Family Guy, American Dad etc then I can see how you would think that. It is the same type humour but projected onto a ST:TNG setting.

Or it could be that some things that work beautifully when animated don't work nearly as well when done with actual people. See every live action thing that Seth MacFarlane has ever done with the possible exception of Ted (1)....and even that was part CGI.

Why would one tv show require an unrelated show as a prerequisite??? Is that because the humor and sophistication level of any of those you mentioned is so utterly brilliant and cutting edge that one simply cannot comprehend the material without being nursed up to that level?

Hopefully, yours will remain the worst argument I encounter this week-- or is it that I need to read your entire post history in order to understand your brilliance? :idunno:

Strip the Cosmos

This series reveals worlds never seen before; stunning CGI animation peels back the layers, revealing alien landscapes of fragile lava caves, roiling plasma seas, cosmic platinum mines, and the hungry black hole at the center of our galaxy – cosmological wonders that play a surprising role defining our place in the universe.

As for a show that pleasantly surprised me with its cheesy, cringe-worthy scenes, an actor I don't really enjoy, and a network I avoid, not to mention a very generic and cheap sci-fi name... Give Future Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4975856/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_4) with Josh Hutcherson on hulu a try. Once I was 2 episodes in, I actually enjoyed it. Flawed, but fun.

I don't deny it. A small description of the series it is always welcomed.
Btw, you posted the wrong link. It's copy/pasted from BTN.

Clearly BTN isn't above plagiarism.

Btw I was mightily disappointed in how the Discovery Channel resorted to tricking people into thinking this would involve nudity and not just a lot of wank science shit.

OK to be fair there was a bit on Uranus.

There are only a handful of movies I have felt were outstanding this year: Ferdinand, Blade Runner 2049, Last Jedi (Luke Fucking Skywalker!!!), Guardians 2, Logan (for what it was),

Good, but not as great as said to be: Dunkirk, Get Out, Darkest Hour, Shape of Water (Dark Splash remake), Roman J., Esq., Beauty and Idol, Baby Driver,

Have not seen yet: I, Tonya, Phantom Thread

Seen, but can fuck off: :Lady Bird (teen angst and self pity countered by quirky shit-- watched 30 minutes before vomiting on my remote), Three Billboards (suffered through whole thing hoping for something worthy of my attention-- not at all)

Personally, i'd give special effects awards. Blade Runner was a very well done sequel as were Jedi, Logan, and Guardians 2. Ferdinand I *loved*... Still award worthy??? IDK. On the benchmark of "Would I purchase any of these to have forever?" All but Ferdinand fall short.

Best of the year means far less during as year of disappointments and made-for-award-show-acclaim.

The Best Picture Oscar isn't voted on like the other categories. For Best Picture people give first, second and third choices and the winner is determined by aggregate score. Therefore something like Get Out will probably benefit more from that than a more artistically brave(ie divisive) movie would.

Also in Hollywood you can never underestimate the desire to appear politically correct.

Btw I don't care how much Meg praises it. I refuse to see Ferdinand as I've never like ABBA.

Actually of all the movies mentioned I've only seen Guardians and the fight scenes from Logan that were on a YouTube video.:blushing: I hear that Willem Dafoe killed it in The Florida Project though, whatever that means.

I enjoyed the first season of Bosch. Season 2 seems pretty good, but I'm only about half way through.

Molly's Game was enjoyable. Ultimately, it only comes down to a couple of plot points:

She values her integrity above all else, she never quits, she has BIG daddy issues, Daddy pushed her because of love.

Still a 7/10.

An argument can be made for Caddyshack being the best comedy ever but if you rate it a 10 you are implying that nothing can or will ever exceed it. I'm trying to leave a bit of wiggle room for that possibility and also I like to overthink everything.

I haven't seen Molly's Game. I've barely watched any movies this year as I've been too busy doing other stuff, mostly overthinking. Likewise haven't seen Bosch as I try to avoid anything produced by Amazon or Netfix if at all possible.

I know that doesn't make any sense but don't question me about it because it took a lot of overthinking to get me to this point.

Giving it a 7 What did you think really beat out Mollys Game for entertainment?? I haven't watched the The Shape of Water yet, but saying that i did like Hell Boy, but not Beauty and the Beast movie (meaning non animated one)...

The only other good ones that I haven't already mentioned are: Thor: Ragnarok, Wonder Woman, American Made, Wind River, John Wick 2

I can't even remember which season of Bosch I'm on-- they all look the same to me...

Unlocked was alright. Sadly, 'entertaining' is all we can say about any of the top movies of the year, and *much* less about anything else that came out.

Shape of Water is literally a remake of Splash written by a goth kid who had to turn in an 'original' script for his homework. Watchable, but once you know where the *entire* storyline was stolen from, it doesn't deserve any awards.

I haven't watched Wind River yet I would agree on those picks being entertaining meaning i didn't have to watch them over 3 days on the account of falling asleep through them, but i wouldn't consider them being a "New Release", if you know what i mean, but for sure entertaining in a good way, and did keep my attention, just like Unlock did. As i said i was working on my server and tried a few B Seagal movies on Netflix as well, and after 5 -10 min in i switched it to something else. Actually switched it to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, i have watched it a few times, and still find it entertaining :)

They put a lot of hype on Shape of Water, and i hear good and bad things about it , and really it depended on the Age of the person i asked, really the reason i didn't rush to watch it. I actually glanced through The Post dvd screener, but that i have to be in the mood...
It really makes you think on the academy and what they look at and see how they vote for these movies that win:idunno:

PS. I can say myself Meg, when it comes to a movie that has great visual effects and action, and a half decent story line, I still think Deadpool is up there on the list, especially with surround sound blasting :D

Thor:Ragnarok was OK but I felt it had some serious missteps. I liked Wonder Woman but if you really think about it, it as a mediocre movie that's only elevated by how good Gal Gadot is in the role. Haven't seen American Made. Fan of both the leads in Wind River but it's essentially 2 hours of boredom punctuated by a couple of extremely violent action scenes. John Wick 2 I found to be a major disappointment but maybe only because of how much I liked John Wick 1.

Sadly, I had to review a list of the top 100 movies of 2017 to dredge up the short list that I made. New releases worth watching have been, ftmp, dreadful for the past couple months.

BEST B-movie I've seen in a while: Accident Man (2018) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6237612/

It's a good mix of cheese, action, decent storyline, fun characters.

I've found Scott Adkins to be my go-to action star when I want a decent movie to help keep me awake at work. Hard Target 2 was pretty decent, too.

Fan of both the leads in Wind River but it's essentially 2 hours of boredom punctuated by a couple of extremely violent action scenes.

Clearly, I would have preferred 2 hours of extremely violent action, but I was willing to settle for the non-cokehead Olsen, Renner playing a marksman (I know, it's a stretch...), a decent murder mystery, and a solid stage and cinematography (albeit very white and cold*).

*Shut up :P

AND... Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was really good for what it was.

I can't stand Kevin Hart. Won't watch any movie he is in. He's really just an annoying version of Chris Tucker (who I liked, BTW).

Unfortunately we will see more movies come out that are just remakes of older (better) movies. Hollywood has been doing it for a long time. They figure enough time has gone by and the younger people going to the movies will have been too young or not born yet to recognize the story.

I did like "American Made". Will have to check out "Wind River", even though it does look boring. I have fallen asleep during bad action movies and stayed awake for an entire drama. So you never know.
