SABNZB - Download
SICKbeard / Couch potato - Auto download
Sites - Many threads exist
Provider - Astra / Giga - Both

Does anyone use anything different out there that might be better?

Open Source options only.

I'm probably not the typical use case but I'll chime in anyway.

The strongest alternative to an automated setup that I know of would be NZBGet & NzbDrone. Get runs on everything from RPis to NAS appliances.

I don't automate, so I use a combination of alt.binz and newsleecher. For providers primarily Astra with a half dozen block accts, mostly European.

EDIT: Beck38 posted this in another thread, pretty sound http://filesharingtalk.com/threads/455485-News-Group-Provider?p=3727237#post3727237

SAB and astraweb. I don't have anything automated either. I like to look through this site once a day. It has been a good resource to find new tv shows I have not yet heard of that way.

Pretty extensive, although really nothing is 100% dedicated to it (machine wise).

SABnzb like most folks for max downloading

Don't need any 'auto' anything as very nearly 99.98% of broadcast tv is brain dead, and the .01% that's interesting eventually ends up on DVD (SD) or Bluray (HD OR SD) in far better quality than anything that's been captured off the air - still have a Hauppague HD-PVR for occasional HD movies and such that aren't on BR and (maybe) never will be.

Will go past 100TB of on-line storage this time next week (next stage of NAS is on order being checked as I write this).

Providers: Main/Astraweb, Blocknews, Giganews.

Many PC's 'in production' of heavy 24/7/365 posting and filling up all those Terabytes listed above. Everything I've ever done is either (or both) in on-line storage or burned to DVD/BR and posted to usenet.

NewsgroupDirect(block acct.) sometimes free hitnews & xennews for fills >> SabNZB >>PyTiVo (server)>>TiVo>>TV.... recent

Before PyTiVo I was using Plex - mostly or Serviio or PS3 Media (DLNA servers) to Roku and/or WDLive Plus or smart TV ..OR.. data files to flashdrive to same devices or Sony Bluray (also data DVD).
All had various strengths and weaknesses
Liking the TiVo setup now for superior picture and navigation.

Supernews with a sabnzbd / sickbeard / couch potato - combo. all my downloads dump into PLEX and because I paid for the plexpass also sync to my 100Gb dropbox account. My media box where all this is set up on hase 2TB of available movies/tv/music/pron etc. I have Roku's attached to all three home tv's and stream everything on the sever to them. Full disclosure. I actually pay for netflix, huluplus, aereo, and have an amazon prime account. Usenet is mostly for current tv shows (with no commercials) and movies (especially during screener season).

Server: TweakNews + block accounts from Astraweb, Highwinds and Readnews. TN is reliable but can be slow in peak hours. Thinking about getting an additional account from another Dutch provider.
Client: nzbget 10.2 - straight download + par-check + rename is all I want. Anything after 10.2 doesn't really work for me. Oh, and there's still "tin" for text-only groups (yeah, I still do that).
Search: private site + binsearch.info

I've seen sickbeard & co. but it feels convoluted to me and I prefer a more simple setup without auto-everything.

formerly giganews but they suck bad now so tweaknews for completion and newshosting for speed.newsleecher 3.7 and newsleecher 4.0 due to different aspects of each program such as when downloading large groups nl3.7 hangs and has a fault upon restart compared to nl4.0 but nl3.7 allows copy and past of article headers where nl4.0 does not.both cracked but no supersearch.also use binsearch as thats the best.for posting i use camelpowerpost and YencPowerPostA&A11b.exe.as per servers the 2 i have now are a better price range than my giga/newshosting setup and way more completion.im pissed at giga as they leave dmca'ed files that HAVE BEEN REMOVED as downloadable but unusable files.so u download 90+ rars and pars then when u have all that space takin up ur hd u find that every file u thought was complete is "unrecognizable" and no matter how many times u par it and it says complete it isnt.this is a way for giga to say they have the retention while at the same time knee bending to the dmca as fast as they can-its a big assed scam by giga due to the dmca removing most of what they used to have .what good is retention if u have nothing to download and use.

I'm with him!;)

I've been using IPv6 xs4all and xsnews + ipv4 free tweaknews for a few years now. Pushing 20-25 mbit/s through a SixXS tunnel, which unfortunately doesn't max out my 100 mbit full duplex home connection (which is provided for no extra cost by my landlord), but I can't really complain tbh. Especially since I have so far never had a download fail for any reason.
I also have a 100 GB blocknews account for backup, but according to Sabnzbd stats, it has never been touched so far.

I guess that makes me kind of a cheapskate.
