Any way to record live tv via your desktop without using Windows Media Center?

Ideally I'd like to use something that is compatible with Chromecast... anyone have a proven method?

I have used the following years ago for recording live TV ; dvbviewer progdvb dvbdream . I don,t know if any of these are compatible with Chromecast
