I enjoyed Gravity too. Didn't really think space was so scary. I can't imagine how I react if I was floating awaiting like Sandra with the radio crackling and dying as she was floating further and further away from Clooney into a vast dark space. I thought that scene was pretty well done and terrifying if you really think of yourself in that situation. Sandra's hyperventilating added to the fear.

Loved it :) Could be any actor/actress playing though.. The movie was all about effects.. well and keeping calm under pressure ;-)

"What you think?"

You mean besides that the thread badly needs to be re-titled so that anyone new to this forum doesn't get the immediate impression that it is populated by a bunch of idiots?

You mean like a Looney Toons episode. Interesting cinematic depth gauge.

Sandra's hyperventilating added to the fear.

No better use for multi-channel digital than to put hyperventilation in your ear. Hope that is used in more films. Like LOTS.

I was disappointed that there was no Smell-O-Rama but I guess the producers were going for realism and in the vacuum of space no one can smell you fart.

Come to think of it, I'm kinda hoping the whole Star Wars series gets remade all from the perspective of being in Darth Vader's helmet. Sound, limited peripheral vision, cranked up heat, and scent of charred face. :w00t:

Think I need to revisit this one, I didn't give it much of a chance first time round and fella sleep half way through! Maybe better in 3D?

The movie was better than I thought. Given the premise, it was hard to imagine how being lost in space for 91 minutes could be entertaining however, though not a great film (IDMB gives it 8.2) it held my attention. I have to wonder, why George Clooney? Did anyone notice his lack of... acting... I felt like he was simply being... well a Cloon of himself... he spoiled what could have been some credible dramatic scenes... Instead I thought I was watching Gravity's Eleven, no... make that, the Men Who Stare at Gravity... or maybe that was O' Gravity, Where Art Thou...

Now Sandra on the other hand, was not only pleasing to the eye, but commands higher than average thespian aptitude.
She makes the film worth watching... Of course, the screenwriters could have changed the dynamic a little... perhaps having two female astronauts... lets say Charlize Theron, in the role... and one of them is a lesbian... and maybe there is a fantasy dream sequence... And the gravity of their love for one another spins them out of control...
Dammit! I have to stop watching porn...

watched it twice on imax , small screens do no justice to this movie .Movie gave a lesson to noob directors how to really utilize 3D effectively rather then converting every damn movie to this format for quick bucks .i felt i was spinning when sandra kept on swinging for 2 minutes in beginning of movie .

Just finished watching it for the 5th time.
One of my favorite movies of all time.
Wished there was an "IMAX" edition of the Blu-Ray, similar to The Dark Knight Rises, Catching Fire, etc.

I thought this movie was so good. I like how it worked on different levels. If all you were looking for was an intense action thriller, it was a great thriller. If you wanted a deeper movie with more character development, it worked on that level as well.

In all seriousness one of the questions asked the director of Gravity was "what were the technical difficulties of filming in space?" by a mexican reporter. :stuart:

I felt it was a slow film and with the 'small' number of characters, it was difficult to find any depth in the film, especially when most good films have multiple plots that merge into one giant story. I can see why people like it and respect the film makers who produced it as it is not something everyone would enjoy.

Not for me, but hey, that's just my opinion

Actually that's not true and majority of the movies considered to be great tend to have a focused vision. What you are describing is a particular genre of film which once upon a time was called a spectacle.
Also for the record, a spectacle is usually bereft of real depth.

Saw the movie and thought it was OK. Guess the engineer/scientist in me was thinking too much about how things would not actually work as shown in the film.

The movie was more of a visual spectacle than a deep meaningful story. Sure, there is some raw human emotion, but it paled relative to the 3D effects.

Hard for 1-dimensional characters to compete with 3-dimensional explosions.

I love Sandra but, this could be one of the worst scripts she chose to do.

Watched the 2D and 3D version, 3D is much better and really comes to life. It wasn't a bad movie, it kept me entertained, plus my young children were able to watch it, so it turned into a family event. ;)
