no. They just look up the manual that you have been supplied with.

do you get half decent summers where you live? the rain is bouncing off the ground here at the moment. about eight miles from the open golf.

Really, you have to ask if the weather is ever good in England. Might snow anytime for all I know but never around Christmas anymore.

When on a holiday is it safer to Paraglide or do the Banana boat? yes both potential lethal options but which is slightly less :D

bigboab
07-15-2016, 03:42 PM
if you can swim then banana boating is slightly the better option

do you paraglide?

Gribley
07-17-2016, 10:13 AM
Done the paraglide thing on holiday with daughter several years ago and even did Hang-gliding "up" at the peak district*. Involved a big slope, cow pats and generally lots of dragging the f**ker back up the hill. Still interesting times

Why do we still pay(TAX) for bin collections when the council(s) are making a packet from recycle and green waste?

bigboab
07-18-2016, 07:29 AM
the tax is not enough to pay the 'fat cats'. Soon they will be collecting rubbish because there will be no employees left. Unless we will be required to hook our wheelie bins on to the lorry and press the button. Whoops I have inadvertently given them ideas.

should council chiefs be elected by the voters?

Gribley

If they ran the elections out of their own pockets and not ours the yes but I can`t see that happening.

Why do restaurants have a corking charge for bottles with screw on caps? .... OK maybe this one should of been saved for the silly question thread but what the hell

bigboab

Being homeless.

What do you think of 'travellers' and why do they always have really nice cars and complain about how bad they are treated?

bigboab
07-29-2016, 08:17 AM
they are treated badly because they treat the environment badly. If only they would clean up after their short stays. I think the councils should ask for an upfront payment to facilitate the clean up. it would be interesting to try that out.

do you have a nice car or are you like my son, he says it is only a means of transporting from a to b.

Gribley
07-29-2016, 09:26 AM
My wife has always had the better car :( I do a lot of miles so generally have a throw away bit of scrap. Did have a nice BMW323i as a company car once but my tax code went to a K and I owned the taxman money before I even started.... great system

Does your elec/gas supplier offer those free smart meters 'on demand' like the advert says (UK thing) or are you like me and have to wait a year or so on a random area list?

bigboab

they are on free offer. not too keen to hand over control to firms who will screw you into the ground and make thank them for the chance.

bigboab

you have probably used them without realising it. especially if you write computer programs or any logical construction. when you reach my age all school instruction is forgotten. Algebra was my favourite subject at school.(No I did not wear thick black or any kind of glasses:lol:)

So hard to quantify. I loved sciences (physics and chem, didn`t like bio). Maths was easy, design and tech (tech drawing) I liked, art.... but maybe best was the outdoor pursuits (like a super PE), I used to rock climb like a sticky monkey, could also canoe like a stoat (horse riding was shite, never want to go near one of them again)

If I travel faster than light towards a destination then time is compressed but not reversed (relative to destination), how does ftl therefore constitute time travel - just squished time travel surely?

bigboab
08-05-2016, 05:01 PM
I don't think time travel is physically possible. graphically possible yes. It is possible to look into the past with the proper instruments but it would be like looking into something frozen in time. It is just my brain deteriorating.:D

using the above as possible which moment in time would you like to peruse?

Gribley
08-06-2016, 08:25 AM
I still remember my "first time" anyway, it wasn`t grand but something I`ll never forget so is stuck in my timeline and not a bad memory. For external events not really sure I missed much that I would want to re-live. If given a chance (and so inclined) I would pop Maggie in the head before she screwed me on poll tax but don`t think you can do that just as a viewer

Gribley

Why does my keyboard have a scroll lock, I have been doing this for almost 30 years (PC, one way or another) and never once has there been a use for it but they keep it!

bigboab
08-06-2016, 05:25 PM
the scroll lock is there so that you can accidently hit it and continue typing for a few minutes with everything capitalised. in the past if this happened you could highlight the offending text and put it all into lower text. I don't know if that option is still available.

why are you accused of shouting when text is capitalised?

Gribley
08-16-2016, 08:33 PM
Because someone decided that it means being confrontational and not just a caps lock mistake I guess, I think just putting a post as Idoleyes works the same but not sure that is as universal (thankfully).

Why do people insist on mounting their flat-screen over the fireplace and then drill into the firebricks for the cable run thinking that is a good idea?

Sorry to interrupt the game :D

But Gribley, thinking that most people have gone to a gas fireplace in the civilized world insulated metal duct pipes and fake logs are now used to produce heat..
Kind of like bringing your Gas or Propane BBQ in the house for heat and cooking:unsure:
And i think most people use over the fire place for there flat screen because they have no space in the average built home today to put it anywhere else:)

The question is.... Why now build a flat screen with a curve and then try to put it on a wall to save space or yet sticking out more be safe to walk by??? That would be a better question.......

Sorry Bigboab just had to get that off my mind.....

That has not been my experience, also the kids get to the pile of crap first and tend to see how many fun games can be had with other peoples trash. For my limited understanding gravity is caused by an iron mass spinning around inside a planet core. Why does that attract?

bigboab
05-12-2017, 04:11 PM
the cause of gravity is one of the great unsolved mysteries. your explanation explains the cause of magnetism,(I think )

In 1915, Einstein published his theory of gravity within the framework of his now famous theory of general relativity. According to general relativity,*the effects of gravitation are caused by a*spacetime curvature and not*a force, as Newton had asserted.* Einstein’s theory of general relativity was able to successfully account for several effects that were*unexplained by Newton’s law, such as the*anomalies in the orbits of Mercury. Einstein’s*theory of general relativity proposed that spacetime is curved by matter, and that free-falling objects are moving along locally straight paths, called geodesics, in curved spacetime. A simple way to think about this is to think about a drum. Now think about pushing down in the center of the drum. This would cause the entire surface of the drum to become concave (i.e., curve inward). If you drop a marble on the drum, it will fall to the center due to the inward curvature of the drum’s surface. Although Einstein general theory of relativity is now a corner stone of modern physics, especially astrophysics,*it still did not explain fundamentally why or how matter curves space, which still left the nature of gravitation a mystery. On a side note, while general relativity predicted*numerous phenomena, such as* gravitational lensing (i.e., the bending of light by a large mass) and an effect of gravity on time known as gravitational time dilation (i.e., the slowing down of “clock” in a strong gravitational field), it was incompatible with the highly successful theory of quantum mechanics, which describes the behavior of atoms and subatomic particles. if you understand all that you are reading too much.
