Just use Nero Wave Editor then that should do what you want.

one more thing guys! :) i was able to crop the music file, now my problem is, is there a way to compress the file size of the .wav file so that it won't take too much space using the nero wave editor? or any other wav editor.

try using a real sound eding prog like Sound Forge 6.0. it is much better than nero sound editor and opens mp3 directly

Ok, im a bit puzzled here.
*.wav files are like 5 to 10 times bigger that mp3&#39;s.
As far as i know, ringtones (the latests hype) are MIDI (http://www.midi.com) files, extensions: *.mid , *.midi and the likes.
They reason they are midi files is rather simple.
*.wav&#39;s and *.mp3&#39;s are usually always megabytes and midis are kilobytes,
thus taking even less place in the memory.

Example:
Pritni Spears latest hit:
Wav files = 50mb
mp3 = 5 mb (depending on the BitRate)
midi = 1 to 50 kb (depends how well it was made, how many instruments was used)

Telephones dont have too much memory.

Questions arises:

What tlf you have?
What format your tlf accepts?
Confirm if you are trying to make ringtones for, say, Nokia phones and the likes.

Wav to mp3 --&#62; works fine
wav to midi --&#62; cant do it too well
mp3 to midi ---&#62; same as wav to midi

Beacause wav&#39;s and mp3&#39;s are actually AUDIO files, MIDI is not:


MIDI is the acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. Throughout its existence, MIDI has gained acceptance with industry professionals by leaps and bounds. Not only does it allow for faster creation and composition of music, it allows the composer to become the proverbial one-man band.
MIDI was introduced in 1983. It was developed in cooperation between the major music industry electronic instrument manufacturers including Roland, Yamaha, Korg and others. No one ever dreamed the kinds of sounds that could be created and accessed using such a powerful communications protocol.

The MIDI protocol allows electronic devices (usually synthesizers, but also computers, light show controllers, VCR’s, multi-track recorders, etc.) to interact and work in synchronization with other MIDI compatible devices. Using a master controller device such as a keyboard, one can play or trigger sounds from other electronic devices remotely. This eliminates the need for one keyboardist to perform with nine or ten keyboards around him. He can play all the keyboards through one simply by connecting them using MIDI. The other keyboards can be off-stage; he never has to touch them, yet he can play them.

The best analogy for MIDI is to liken it to the linking of two computers via modems. The same way the computers share information via modem, electronic devices share it via MIDI. It does not send the actual musical note, but the information about the note. It can send messages to synthesizers telling it to change sounds, master volume, modulation devices, which note was depressed, and even how long to sustain the note.

MIDI has been continually expanded to include other features for the professional musician. Some of note include MIDI Time Code (allowing synchronization of video and audio), Sample Dump Standard (allowing for the transfer of digital audio files) and MIDI Show Control (allowing control of devices used in theater).


So, a file tells your Soundcard how, when and how long an instrument is played.
Midi itself has NO audio, its sort of language.
Those instruments are usually stored in your soundcards Synthesizer as samples.
Those samples have different formats, .wav or .sbi etc.

Sort of example:
Take an Vocal from a song, you cant make midi of the words, those are Audio.
But you can make midi out of the Vocal melody.

hey thanks so much for the detailed reply&#33; Yes, .wav files are way much bigger in file size, but for ringtones, we won&#39;t be using the whole music/file, just a portion like lets say only the chorus or the intro. I&#39;m using Nokia 7650, and it can not playback mp3 files for ringtones.

i have downloaded some wav files (short ones) that is about 20kb only in size, try to search for sound effects. The quality are quite good, but i want to try to make my own :)
