Thundernews is a Highwinds reseller (https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/providers#wiki_reseller_map3). Not to mention, they'll terminate your unlimited account (https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/2gz6if/thundernews_closed_my_account_for_abuse/) for downloading "too much".

I take it that Eweka is owned by highwinds?

I know I have seen charts around showing the "families" of Usenet providers--it seems like there used to be a "Big 4" and some minor ones. Perhaps someone can give provide a link?

That chart is somewhat dated now. This (https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/providers) provider list is more up-to-date, but still not 100% accurate as Highwinds has been scooping up just about everyone. Specifically, Cambrium has now been acquired by Highwinds (https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/2sxh7o/now_that_tweaknews_has_most_likely_been_acquired/), but is still represented as an independent backbone on the list.

For over 5 years. They were (I believe) their first step into Europe on their way to world domination.
