I'm trying to make some cheap bike hangers for the garage using drop handlebars (http://www.bikehacks.com/bikehacks/2012/06/handlebar-bike-hanger.html). I stopped at a couple of local shops and was able to acquire two free drop bars, but had no luck on the quill stems. There are quite a few on ebay for just a few bucks but I have no idea what size to look for. Googling hasn't provided clear answers. Here is what each bar has labeled:

That make sense? Can you dumb it down for me a bit? :ermm:

I think it would require a standard Italian 26mm stem (American standard is 25.4mm I believe). The length being somewhat irrelevant except for optimal wall clearance, longer is probably better.

There won't be much torsional force put on it so even if you had to resort to spacers I wouldn't be too worried.

Oh the quill part is always going to be 22.2 mm is you need to fit it into s sleeve or something.

Only other variable is the stem angle. The one in the link has a pretty severe city bike kind of one.Suggest anything but a downward sloping track one.

Sorry I finally took a good look at the second picture and it says 31.8 mm so is that a Mountain Bike?Either way that might be hard to find.

Maybe try this or get some other cheap bars online.

Either that or mug some yuppie for his bike as we both know he deserves it.

Sorry again but as the second one isn't clearly shown and seems to lie outside my experience, is it noticeably thicker than the ITM bar?

I tried to Google bars that had that honeycomb design but didn't have any luck.My guess is that it came off of something that didn't have a quill though.

Yeah, one is definitely bigger, having a bulk in the center. Here's another pic.

After doing a bit of research and reading what you posted, I think maybe my best bet might just be to find another set of free drops. Tis fat one is prolly just not worth the effort. Also trying to scrounge up some free bar tape as well.

I clearly wasn't thinking straight last night and got fixated on the quill thing.

As you probably know since about 2005 or something most road bikes have gone with the design where the stem clamps directly to the steerer tube hence the 31.8mm new standard or as anyone not old would say "the standard". :pinch:
So basically, yeah the FSA is a nice bar but for your purposes basically useless.

I tried finding cheap new bikes to see if any still actually used quill stems but seems not.
You are apparently going have to find something pretty archaic or learn to love the look of your bike sitting on the floor.

I won't even dignify that question with an ansir.

My Mum also says to fuck off and she thinks it's wonderful that I'm more of a big picture sort of guy than a bureaucrat.:snooty:

K. So the large mm number is the length and the smaller one ~25mm is the hole for the bars. Got it.

Found nothing (nearby) on Craigslist. Snagged one on ebay for $9. Good enough. Thanks bruh.

Frankly if I had one of these (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/c2/80/4b/c2804b029bda27bd5621ec819f89c5dd.jpg) and have one of those too.

I put this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F0O5-ejTdU&nohtml5=False) on it though just so all the peasants could be jealous of my total lack of sense.

Suck it,Meg.

PS This site could definitely benefit from an angry shaking fist emoji.

PPS I would have used one at the end of the previous sentence is there was one.

That one too.

Fuck. That. I prefer my accomplishments to be in the form of distance rather than steep hills.

I thought about one of those spring lifts but i dont want to block my florescent lighting in the garage. I suppse i could rewire/relocate the ballasts a bit but gonna give this cheap solution a go first.

Lyrics:

"Fearless"

You say the hill's too steep to climb,
Chiding!
You say you'd like to see me try,
Climbing!
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb
The hill in my own way
just wait a while, for the right day
And as I rise above the treeline and the clouds
I look down hear the sound of the things you said today
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd, smiling
Merciless, the magistrate turns 'round, frowning
and who's the fool who wears the crown
Go down in your own way
And everyday is the right day
And as you rise above the fearlines in his frown
You look down
Hear the sound of the faces in the crowd

Personally I always thought this was the perfect song in terms of lyrics and tempo for climbing.

The decision between buying a straight or bullhorn shouldn't be this difficult! I think I'm going with a straight but I cant find just the right one. Medium width. Tiniest bit of curve.

I did not understand even a little of that.

Granted I'm old and when I hear "bullhorns" I think of this.

Note. Back in the day, this guy use to be my best friend in the entire World so maybe if you contact his overpriced, catering to stupid rich yuppies store and tell him that some guy who you only know off the internet who he hasn't thought about in a decade said he'd cut you a deal then maybe he'd help you out.:smilie4:

PS if you can't tell by the video he's sort of also a shyster, which probably is one reasons that I'm so good at reading shysters.

PPS Sorry if none of this is helpful or relevant but if wishes were horses then beggars would ride or something.
