Stupid Pop-ups

i'm sick off bloody pop-ups
i just read that it is a problem with microsoft xp--messenger
does messnger blocker work or am i going to get duped again?

i use norton internet security it has never vlocked a window that is supose to come up and only once in a blue moon does a pop up get through and you can manuallly block it then.

Turn off Windows Messenger. Check out BlackViper.com for instructions

As for the pop ups, just get a browser like Opera or Firebird that has pop up blocking built in. I use both browsers and I haven't seen an unwanted pop up yet.

Windows 2000:
Click Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools->Services
Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK

Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
Click Performance and Maintenance
Click Administrative Tools
Double click Services Scroll
down and highlight "Messenger"

i don't use a pop up blocker well ok its called ad-aware but it doesn't work like a normal pop up blocker its free at downloads.com

ad-aware just lets you scan for adwares after they've been installed on your cpu
try going to astalavista and see how many pop-ups you run into
(before i installed ad muncher i was gettin barraged by em) not 1 now :D

oh yeah, and a good hosts file helps too, but you kinda gotta build it to your preferences

Please do a search on the forum for Pop up blockers and testers. There has been a topic before where we measured the statistics of each program to see its efficiency. Ad Muncher i believe came out to be very good.

There is no need to go into discussions which one is the best, you can find that yourself in that thread. ;)

well since i have used it i have been getting 95% less popups also i use a web browser called phaseout it has a popup blocker installed so between the two im getting little to no pupups

It's actually smileysoftware to brighten up your e-mail but it comes with a pop-up stopper and some fun games as well.can't go wrong with this,can you? :lol:

I did the test and PopUp Block 1.65 passed everything. :D

For Win, right now it's Firebird 0.7. If and when you install the Java bundle, you
will probably want to disable the cache, exploit.
The best browsers I can think of for security run in Linux. Dillo 300k browser and
GLinks are good for minimalist interet.
But with Windows, it's definetly going to be the latest Firebird build. Also, run
Spybot S&D to clean out the registry. It will detect certain lines in the reg that other
free apps will not. If you've never used it, you'll probably be surprised to see what
it finds.

i d/l it about 2 or 3 months ago and i haven&#39;t got a single Pop-Up and its already blocked 1056 Pop-Ups
