Hi,
Recently purchased a new tower with latest i5 processor, only to find that Windows 7 updates no longer supported! No mention of this was made on the vendors website, though I hadn't asked for Windows 7 to be installed. Definitely didn't want Windows 10, so came with no OS installed.
Didn't find out until I'd installed Win 7 that the OS was no longer supported by this hardware. Not too big a deal for me because ultimately going for Linux as main OS.
Just wondering if anyone else forced to have Win 10 on their new PC?

This artificial limitation effectively ends support for those using blacklisted processors, even though Windows 7 wasn't supposed to go EOL until January 2020. Fortunately, it can be patched.

Thanks for the information
You're welcome :turned:
Note that this only gets rid of the CPU check. If Microsoft starts releasing Windows 7 updates that are incompatible with these processors, there won't be much that can be done. It seems unlikely that they'd do it, though.

I jumped to Win10 for my sins but ClassicShell makes it all OK again.
You do have to dig about and uninstall/turn off quite a lot of shitty M$ "features" and "apps" though.

I didn't accept to upgrade. I do not want to upgrade to win 10. I did not click anything to upgrade. I am happy with Windows 7.

Alternatives are:
- linux with wine (for win7)
- vmware on linux (for win 7, no compatibility problems)
- virtualbox on linux ((for win 7, no compatibility problems)

I'm sticking to Win7 for the foreseeable future. None of the telemetry updates were installed on my current build. I have no plans to build another computer any time soon. Maybe Windows 10 will be mature enough and tweakable, to use it in the future when I finally need a new PC.
That workaround is very handy. Just hope M$ doesn't disable it.

Something similar happened to me with my laptop, I tried to install W7 but it did not let me install drivers, I had to place W10 bound.
