damn... can't find the pm button... :P

the answer uses mainly a rearrangement of the words...... and playing with the sounds within this arrangement.....

a clue.... erm...... the creditors are chasing, you better keep them off your back with this comment...... something easily said to the creditors over the phone.....

and if you don't get it with those hints then I'll just have to tell you the answer.....

http://members.shaw.ca/wenpigsfly/smileys/clap.gif Good show !

The subject matter for this one's rather morbid but it's a good puzzler....

Gerta's husband left her for another woman, so she decided to make a lethal mixture to take her life. Attempting to make it as powerful as possible, she mixed sodium hydroxide with hydrochloric acid. She quaffed her cocktail of death, but nothing happened. Why?

ang3968

John got in trouble in class for throwing paper, the teacher made him clean it up and asked for his phone number so he could call John's parents. John said it was ninety-one, fourteen, sixty-three, seven. The teacher automatically knew it was a fake, how?

I'm determined to stump you yet....I have to get on even terms somehow for the other thread !

Sam Rottenegger got some free tickets to go and see his least favorite band. Sam, feeling a little unruly, stopped at the corner store so he could bring a 1/2 dozen eggs with him to the concert.
The concert was packed and the tunes where so loud that Sam could hardly stand it. He started making his way through the crowd when one of the eggs broke in his pocket and ran down the inside of shirt. Sam squirmed with disgust but thought how great it would be to see that yellow ooze on the band members.

It took him 60 grueling minutes to make his way close enough to launch his attack. Sam chucked one right at the bass player but it just bounced off him without breaking.

"Odd," Sam thought, but every one of the 4 eggs he threw just landed unbroken. He never got to throw the 5th as security removed Sam promptly. Sam, now half deaf, bruised, battered, and confused looked closely at the egg and noticed it wasn't exactly raw anymore. Frustrated, Sam chucked the egg over his shoulder hitting an Officer who gladly gave him a free nights stay at the Bars Inn.

So what happened to the eggs that caused them not to break? Note that they were totally raw when he brought them in.

ang3968
12-01-2003, 10:24 AM
oooooooo.....toughy

ok... I don't think it was body heat even if it did take 60 mins to get thru the crowd...

gonna have to put the thinking cap on for this one....lol.. don't think google will help at all

Riddler

ang3968
12-01-2003, 10:40 AM
AHA..........

high volume sound waves at certain frequencies can cause the proteins in an egg to stick together almost like when it is boiled...... so the eggs bounced like a hard boiled egg instead of breaking.

Here's another classic....

There was once a man named Harold. Harold was from England. The king would always get upset with Harold because it seemed like Harold never failed at anything and the king was jealous.
So one day, the king was determined to prove Harold a failure. He drew a line across the floor. He said:
"Harold, make this line shorter. You may not erase it in any way".
Harold said
"No problem your highness".
And he made the line shorter.

How is this possible?

ang3968
12-01-2003, 11:38 AM

The time is twenty-six minutes to one in the afternoon. The year is 1978, and the date is May 6th. What is the significance of this?

OK, mystery time................

Detective Knickers had just finished examining the body of Gertrude Munsch which was lying on couch in her plush living room.

"Mrs. Munsch was hit on the back of her head 3 or 4 times with the butt of that pistol," the sleuth said.

The .45 lay on the floor near the body. Sheriff Googler was dusting the weapon for fingerprints.

"I've telephoned her husband at his office and only told him to come home, I dislike breaking bad news. Will you do it?", the sheriff said.

"I'll do it," said Knickers as he watched the body being removed from the scene. Then he took a seat in a lounge chair to wait for Mr. Munsch.

The Ambulance drove away just as Mr. Munsch arrived. He came into the living room and asked, "Where's Gerti ? What's happened?"

"I'm sorry to have to tell you that she was murdered about 3 hours ago," said Knickers. "Your cleaning lady found the body and called the sheriff."

"I can't find any fingerprints on this gun," said the sheriff. "I'll send it to the lab."

Mr. Munsch's face flushed as he got angry and said, "please find the fiend that clubbed Gertie to death, I'll put up a twenty-five thousand dollar reward!"

"Save your money," said Googler. "The murderer won't be that hard to find." Why?

It was the husband - he knew that she'd been clubbed to death with the pistol rather than being shot, but the detective never told him that.

"I've finally earned my place as assistant curator of the museum", said Bob Hobbie to Max, the chief administrator of the Belgra Archeological Museum. "I moved West of the Pakistani dig site and we've just unearthed some wonderful coin artifacts."

"Why did you start digging in a new location?" asked Max.

"One of the local natives told me that, for many generations, his family had passed down a legend of a lost village and he found a map among his father's things," said Bob. "His father recently passed away", he added. "The native followed the map and led me to this site on the condition that if we discovered anything of value he would be paid one thousand dollars", explained Bob.

"And what is it that you found buried,?" asked Max.

"It's just terrific," exclaimed Bob, "we found 3 gold coins of various sizes dated 400 B.C., and after properly dusting them off I found them to be in excellent condition." "I quickly paid the native to complete our verbal contract and keep him from trying to claim a portion of the discovery," concluded Bob. After considering for a few moments, Max told Bob that when he returns home he should look for another job!! Why?

This one's kind of enlightening really ;) ....finish the last line of this poem;

It was the first time as I recall,
One evening in May, you gave it me,
My mother was hiding and watching it all,
My very first time with her own eyes to see.
It was an experience beyond compare.
You pushed it between my lips, I swear,
I could feel it, feel it, all of it there.
I coughed and I spluttered, I thought I would choke,
So great was the feeling that nobody spoke,
The first time you gave me - my ____ ____ _____.

This one's a groaner....don't think too seriously, but you will have to think.

The tour guide was finishing the tour at Mozart's grave and told everyone that if they listened very carefully, they could hear actual music coming from the grave. Everyone immediately fell silent and, sure enough, symphony music could be distinctly heard coming from the ground although it sounded as if it were being played backwards. What could possibly explain this?

Timothy and Urban play a game with two dice. But they do not use the numbers. Some of the faces are painted red and the others blue. Each player throws the dice in turn. Timothy wins when the two top faces are the same color. Urban wins when the colors are different. Their chances are even.
The first die has 5 red faces and 1 blue face. How many red and how many blue are there on the second die?

ilw

http://members.shaw.ca/wenpigsfly/smileys/no2.gif

a bit of the reasoning behind it,
there are 36 possible combinations, so for equal odds each player must win with 18 of these 36. Tim's wins are 5 x two blues + 1 x two reds.

titey
12-02-2003, 05:28 PM
 I was gonna say 3 each before the last post, but it just didn't seem possible that it was right, so I said 2 & 4.... but after twiddlin #s, I'm back to 3 & 3 again.

It still don't seem right though, but....

Wow, had to get out the Big Shovel to dig this back up. :P

A woman was standing at a table while a man sat on the other side of the table. The man had a drink but had not ordered any food. The woman took something out of her shoe and put it in front of the man on the table. The man looked at it carefully but did not touch it. The woman then took something else out of the same shoe and put it on her side of the table, but the man did not look at it. The woman then took something else out of her shoe and put it on the table in front of the man, who looked at it but again did not touch it. The woman then pulled a fourth object out of her shoe and put it on her side of the table. This time the man looked at the object she had just put down and asked her politely not to give him anything else from her shoe. What is going on here?

Once upon a time in the town of Kaylitelounge, a servant lived with his master. After 30 years of faithful service, his master became ill and was going to die. One day, the master called his servant and asked to make a wish. It could be any wish.... but just one. The master gave him one day to think about it. The servant became very happy and went to his mother for some direction. His mother was blind and she asked her son to ask the old man to restore her sight. Then the servant went to his wife. She became very excited and asked for a son as they'd been childless for many years. After that, the servant went to his father who wanted to be rich and so he asked his son to wish for a lot of money. The next day he went to his master and made one wish through which all three (mother, father, wife) got what they wanted. What did the servant say to his master ?

In a far away land, it was known that if you drank poison, the only way to save yourself is to drink a stronger poison, which neutralizes the weaker poison. The king that ruled the land wanted to make sure that he possessed the strongest poison in the kingdom, in order to ensure his survival, in any situation. So the king called the kingdom's pharmacist and the kingdom's treasurer, he gave each a week to make the strongest poison. Then, each would drink the other one's poison, then his own, and the one that will survive, will be the one that had the stronger potion.
The pharmacist went straight to work, but the treasurer knew he had no chance, for the pharmacist was much more experienced in this field, so instead, he made up a plan to survive and make sure the pharmacist dies. On the last day the pharmacist suddenly realized that the treasurer would know he had no chance, so he must have a plan. After a little thought, the pharmacist realized what the treasurer's plan must be, and he concocted a counter plan, to make sure he survives and the treasurer dies. When the time came, they king summoned both of them. They drank the potions as planned, and the treasurer died, the pharmacist survived.
What exactly happened there?

Riddler

If the treasurer swaps the pharmacists potion for water, then drinks a weaker potion before the test he'll make it.

But if the pharmacist swaps it back, then the treasurer is in trouble.

Best one I've got right now.

dwightfry
12-03-2003, 03:38 PM
um..... lets see

did the treasurer just use water, and planned fake drinking the pharmisists.

So the pharmasist just used water also and poisoned the water before giving to the treasurer, the treasurer figuared it must just be water also and drank it?

ang3968
12-03-2003, 03:41 PM
ok... hows this sound....

the only way to save yourself would be to drink a weak poison first then the strong one which would neutralise the weaker one right....

so the treasurer's plan was to drink a weak poison first then the stronger one made by the pharmacist and to bring water....

when the pharmacist figured that out he took water so the treasurer died from the first weaker poison and the pharmacist only drank water.....???

well it started out making sense...

edit:... blah took so long trying to figure it out and then type it two people got in before me...
maybe I should forget the puzzles and work on the typing skills...

thanx SnnY :)

I have one.....

Seven horses in a farm in Kentucky,
Of three blacks, the oldest is a daddy;
Of two browns, the 3 year old male is called BILLY,
And the horse SNOWY is white as a lily.

Of two half-sister mares, the black won in the Derby,
She's a shade lighter than her daughter, BEAUTY;
BEAUTY and her cousin LUCKY, both half the age of their auntie,
But faster than either ROCKY or SUNNY.

Three of the horses are ready for the Derby,
A horse must be three years to be an entry;
Maybe this year the farm gets lucky,
Their stallion's loss last year was a pity.

CHALLENGE: Describe the horse that lost in last year's Derby.

That's tough.

I noticed that it says there are 7 horses, but only 6 are named and only 6 are described by there color. Is that a mistake...or a hint/clue?

I think this is how it all works out.

(Black #1) - ROCKY,(AGE?),Can Enter/Not going to/Too old
(Black #2) - SUNNY,(AGE?), Can enter/Won Derby last yr
(Black #3) - BEAUTY, 1.5 yrs old, Can't enter
(Brown #1) - BILLY, 3 yrs old, Can enter/Couldn't last year
(Brown #2) - LUCKY, 1.5 yrs old, Can't enter
(White #1) - SNOWY,(AGE?), Can Enter

..............................................ROCKY
....................................../...........|............\
.............................. SUNNY.....BILLY......SNOWY
.............................../..................................\
..........................BEAUTY....................... LUCKY

So....My guess is that Rocky lost last year, It was a pity because he is getting old.

That looks right Ang.......nice work on that, dwightfry !

Allow me to put one out there while we wait for Ang's yay or nay..........

Scatterbrain the Treasurer was a bit of a ... well, scatterbrain, and he had forgotten how many gold, silver and bronze coins were kept in the town vaults. So he decided to ask the three guards, each of whom guarded one type of coin, how many coins were in his charge. However, the guards were uncooperative, and the best that Scatterbrain could get from each was a statement about the numbers of coins in the other two vaults. Dimwit, who was guarding the gold, said there were 3000 silver and 5000 bronze coins; Thickplank, who was in charge of the silver, said there were 3000 gold and 5000 bronze; while Beefbrain, who was protecting the bronze, said there were 4000 gold and 3000 silver. Unfortunately, only one guard was being truthful, each of the other two stating at least one false amount. If there were 12000 coins altogether, how many of each type were there?

The lawyer explained that according to the terms of her aunt's Last Will and Testament, Gertie will get fifty times the original amount bequethed if she could correctly guess the amount left her by midnight tomorrow. "God, that would be thousands of dollars if you succeed," the lawyer said as he handed her a note from her aunt. It read:

RAIN RIDDLE: OLD ASTRONOMY HOST ALLOWS ABLE LASS ENTRY IN OWN LAND ESTATE. Love Aunt Alley.

Question: How many thousand dollars did her millionaire aunt left Gertie?

That's tough.

I noticed that it says there are 7 horses, but only 6 are named and only 6 are described by there color. Is that a mistake...or a hint/clue?

I think this is how it all works out.

(Black #1) - ROCKY,(AGE?),Can Enter/Not going to/Too old
(Black #2) - SUNNY,(AGE?), Can enter/Won Derby last yr
(Black #3) - BEAUTY, 1.5 yrs old, Can't enter
(Brown #1) - BILLY, 3 yrs old, Can enter/Couldn't last year
(Brown #2) - LUCKY, 1.5 yrs old, Can't enter
(White #1) - SNOWY,(AGE?), Can Enter

..............................................ROCKY
....................................../...........|............\
.............................. SUNNY.....BILLY......SNOWY
.............................../..................................\
..........................BEAUTY....................... LUCKY

So....My guess is that Rocky lost last year, It was a pity because he is getting old.

It was puzzle time down the Pig and Bucket. "It's a real digital dilemma," remarked Bert as he supped his ale. Alf had the self-satisfied smile, he always wore when he was confident he had Bert over a barrel. Alf had drawn the equation below on card and given Bert the digits 1-6. Bert had to put two digits on each line, using each digit once and once only, to make a valid equation.

____ + ____ = ____

Using only the six digits and no further symbols, in how many ways can it be done? ...

okies....

SNOWY, a 4 year old male white horse lost last year.

The Derby is for three year old horses. Therefore only a current four year old horse could have lost last year.

SNOWY is the only horse which could have been three last year (four this year).

The farm is preparing three of the seven horses for this years Derby.....there must therefore be at least three 3-year old horses among the seven. BILLY is 3-years old.....necessarily, BEAUTY and her cousin LUCKY must be 3 years old both. ( they are of the same age)......
Beauty's mum could not be three because she won in the Derby before. The oldest black is even older than BEAUTY's mum.
BEAUTY's aunt could not be three......... if she were, then SNOWY must also be three to complete the three entries this year. This would mean that no horse would be four years old as BEAUTY and LUCKY would be one and a half years old.

does that make sense ????

Can the horses be too old to enter or not be prepared to enter despite being old enough? if not its gotta be the oldest black stallion, if they can be too old or chosen not to enter then it must be the horse of unknown colour.
The name I dunno
Edit: doh. i took it to mean that they had to be 3 or older damn

Ignore the bit about the elephant Riddler, that is just there to confuse you. Concentrate on the spider with the wooden leg, boring through the onion.

I will give you a couple of days to solve the second part.

lynx

Just a quick one till Riddler recovers from eating spider infested onions.

At a local bar, three friends, Mr. Green, Mr. Red and Mr. Blue, were having a drink. One man was wearing a red suit; one a green suit; and the other a blue suit.

"Have you noticed," said the man the blue suit, "that although our suits have colours corresponding to our names, not one of us is wearing a suit that matches our own names?"

Mr. Red looked at the other two and said, "You're absolutely correct."

What colour suit is each man wearing?

Riddler
12-18-2003, 05:11 PM
Something tells me it isn't this easy, but..............

Mr. Red is wearing a blue suit.
Mr. Green is wearing a red suit.
Mr. Blue is wearing a green suit.

or.........An orange because motorcycles don't have doors.http://www.emotipad.com/emoticons/Eye%20Spin.gif

lynx
12-18-2003, 05:58 PM
Sorry, Riddler, that's not it.

omc - spot on.

Mr Red replies to the man in the blue suit, so he can't be wearing it himself. And we know that Mr Blue can't be wearing the blue suit, so it must be Mr Green.
Mr Red can't wear the red suit, so he must be wearing the green one, which leaves the red suit being worn by Mr Blue.

An old man wanted to leave all of his money to one of his three sons, but he didn't know which one he should give it to. He gave each of them a few coins and told them to buy something that would be able to fill their living room.
The first son bought straw, but there was not enough to fill the room.
The second bought some sticks, but they still did not fill the room.
The third son bought two things that filled the room, so he obtained his father's fortune. What were the two things that the son bought?
