well im building a new computer and sellin my 2.4P4 and i need some advice. first off i need to know if these basics the CPU MOBO and Memory would go good together?

CPU: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...tCode=80646-800 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80646-800)

MoBo: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ductCode=246217 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=246217)

Memory: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ctCode=80098-22 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80098-22)

if your wondering why im going with an P4 2.4 with 800 FSB is cause they have great over clocking capabliltys. my second question is do Segate or Western Digital have better HDD's? i would like to aviod a failing HDD.also i might downgrade the memory to DDR 333 instead od DDR 400 for becuz of the price but im not sure.

I know the price is higher, but I'd stay with the ddr 400.

Also, I really can't say about them anymore, but back in the day of 4 - 10 gig hard drives, Seagate really sucked. I worked for a company then that put them in audio devices. About 1 out 3 were DOA, and the rest would screw up soon there after.
I can't really say, about their newer drives, but if it were me, I'd choose a Western Digital or Maxtor HDD.

I really like the Seagate drives. Absolutely silent.

everything looks nice, but I think you could get some ram with a lower CAS latency.

thanks for your comments. and i'll look into lower lantency RAM to see if i can get a good price. im trying to keep the basics of the computer minus the Video card under a grand and right now i have all that at about 820 dollars. with the case its about 870.

The guys at my local computer shop won't use anything but Seagate.

They swear by them and swear at everything else.

They do tend to be pricier though.

He could save some money if he went wth a "gAyMD" processor and OC it a bit to get to 2.4GHz :P .

The "gAyMD" in his sig indicates that it is not a viable option apparently.

Well I was waiting to see what swear words he'd put in caps lock clocker.

The anticipation is killing me!

$700?

You really don't need to buy the spare chip right away you know.

i talking about the FX 51 when i mentioned the 700 dollar CPU for those of you who didn;t know other then that i wasn't that intrigued by AMD's CPU's. comparing the 2400 and 2.4 P4 is like comparing a slightly weaker P4 2.4 counterpart to a true 2.4.

you can't compare an athlon fx-51 and a P4 2.4 chip...it's a little unfair :)

a little bit weaker, to save 150 dollars?

I think I would take the +150 dollars.

i knwo its unfair to compare them but thats really the only AMD chip i was interested but like i said they are expensive plus i wasn't really comparing them.

Im not have as smart as all of you when it comes to hardware but why not the amb64 and not the 64 fx chip. the AMD 64 (http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1469) still beat the Intel P-4 3.2 chip without overclocking and its like US $300.00 cheaper...
