Apollon (http://apollon.sourceforge.net/)

Is a KDE-based client for the p2p-protocol giFT (OpenFT, FastTrack(Kazaa!),..) It is very userfriendly, intuitively, offers an inline Mediaplayer for previews of downloaded files, etc etc.

(btw, anyone tryed yet?)

Looks interesting, not much information on that site though.

I usually just test things on another windows partition, that's if I can be bothered to reboot into it.

It hasn't worked this time I have installed everything on my main windows partition and nothing on my other one. Just too lazy.

I'll have to wait until tomorrow.
I'm burning an atrac music disc just now, it encodes each song then burns the cd all in one go. It can hold around about thirty albums.
It takes quite a long time, so I don't want anything to go wrong.

I'll be your tester tomorrow

you have to download and install giFT,
OpenFT plugin and Gnutella plugin
then the FastTrack plugin,the
OpenNap Plugin,
finally you can install Apollon
Thats way to much trouble to go through for a Fasttrack client.

(source) (http://apollon.sourceforge.net/download.html)

I'll stick with IRC,BitTorrent and KLite

you need to compile source code - there are no binaries -
I would be glad to see a small program (*.exe) which connects
to kazaa net ;)

Before I download.

Will this work on Windows because it looks remarkably like a Linux app. The site even mentions KDE.

Because I know nothing about programming, will someone be able to produce an EXE with all the required files on the Apollon site?

It would be jolly helpful.

Looks like it is for UNIX to me !

I tried KCEasy - it is for windows. I'm not so sure you'll easily find a giFT binary download for windows...

Well its good for the linux users. Probably the most colorful client I've seen, reminds me of the program Ares(just the functionality and the way it displays the data and such).

well i see KCeasy 0.9 (http://osdn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/kceasy/kceasy-0.9-inst.exe) is an installer that includes giFT and all other plugins with no compiling, i had it up and running in 3 seconds :P

If you are working on Windows (98, other) , can you post a link the binaries you have created ?

Sorry, I did not understand you. Yes. I got it OK. Thanks!
Is it working OK for you , or Kazaa is much better/faster ?

i'm thinking: "goodbye kazaa, hello kceasy"
EDIT: after using it some, i'd say its missing some features most klite users are used to, the toolbar buttons are in the wrong order, it does connect to 3 networks, but doesn't multisource off seperate networks. the media player blows, but it has open externally in the right click menu, searches and download speeds are ok depending on the sources, it seems kinda buggy, (i just crashed it) but what can you expect they've only been working on giFT for about 3 years (don't quote me) it's better then gnutella0.56 :P i think openFT/giFT might get as big as emule if they impove it at the same rate.

Kceasy is definitely the future of FastTrack.I also think you should try and help in that project, just see the TO DO list:

bugs
----
make interface parser case insensitive (low priority)
hide non-visible pages to speed up repaint on window resize (low priority)
make tree items deselectable (low priority)
sometimes download speed is way too high, presumably on slow updates
exiting with tray menu and open share selector crashes (seems hard to reproduce)

features
--------
add "download as" menu option (low priority)
add sig2dat and magnet url support
share link feature for library which copies sig2dat/magnet links to clipboard
media type specific result tree view columns
download preview (requires temp file support from gift)
make plugins changeable from config dialog
add completed downloads to shares list (get meta data?)
extra meta data info panel for search results like in the library
allow browsing of users/library with a tree view
revise tray menu
if there is only one source for a download show it in the top node
use separate top node for search results like for downloads
XP theme support?
singleton downloads (check with HEx to work out details)
start new searches with currently choosed search result page's preferences
preview downloads
change path mapping to provide list of possible paths? add special map for completed/incoming dir
color error/warning lines in gift log
searching in meta data
word banlist for search results
filtering for search results

installer must not overwrite old configs (but erase tree header data in some cases)

expensive stuff
---------------
i18n
refactor engine
auto update (partly done)
entirely refactor library (add playlists, etc.)
combine multiple search results in one callback (decreases message traffic)
multiple hash support (for shares!)
_auto_ search for more sources, at least when no more other sources

gift
----
allow for "profiles" so different front ends can't see each other's downloads?
download first and last parts of file first to allow early previewing
for plugins remove_source is called before the chunk is cancelled (commented in code)
nodes.serve doesn't have special upload flag set
add path() to CHGDOWNLOAD (for previewing files)
collecting system data for search node promotion
save hide shares status across restarts

Until they will implement auto-search-more, and combine multiple sources from different networks - KL K++ is better.

Kceasy is a nice little program, I like the simplicity of it and it works!!

It has alot of nice features..

However, improvements that need to be made are:

auto-find more sources
preview files while they are downloading

...but apart from that it's very promising!

Wow, I downloaded something off KC, I had a download up to 700 - 800 KB/PS

Very nice.
Ps do you need to port forward this P2P program?
