jDownloader works, and can download everything - even the videos' audio track, subtitles and thumbnails.

anon, do you recommend v2?

(...and haven't installed it yet, but how do you get around the ads?)

Absolutely. v1 isn't even supported anymore and can't download from a large amount of hosts.

As for the advertisements, it's been a while since I upgraded, but as I recall you needed to run the offline installer (link follows) and refuse all "offers" during the process. Then, in the advanced settings, you'll find the ability to hide the Uploaded.net banner, donation button and "get premium" link that shows up on captcha windows.

Truth be told, I don't use jdownloader as much anymore as I used to. Seems like a few years ago it was the only way to get fast/reliable access to grab stuff from download hosts. These days there seem to be more options available that let you download several files in parallel at decent speeds and including resuming in case the download gets interrupted. I honestly don't know the last time I had to rely on the program.

Well, I don't use an ad blocker, so jDownloader remains the only way to download from most hosts and retain my sanity in the process... especially for multi-part stuff. Those pop-unders are insane.

Ghostery sucks shit!!!! Tried it and removed it after a few days.....

Really most sites you have to turn it off anyways......

I appreciate the tip, but this is by choice. All of the sites providing us with free stuff rely on advertising to some degree to cover costs. The more people block it, the harder it becomes for them to stay afloat.

I do draw the line at abusive stuff (pop-unders and crypto miners), but even then I'm willing to tolerate it on certain sites like TPB and Hitomi.la, which due to their content don't exactly have a lot of options.

jDownloader has no such feature. If the video you're interested on has been uploaded in parts to circumvent YouTube's limitations or whatever, watch it that way or use some program to merge/transcode them into a single file. I can't recommend any (it seems Handbrake deliberately lacks this feature), but I'm sure a quick search will ;)

There is an Opera plugin that adds a download button on the YouTube page and then it drops down with the available formats.

typically I use youtube-dl (its command line based). not sure what you mean by "movies" though? if you mean paid movies on Youtube don't see how any downloader would work for that. sooo guessing ya probably talking about the usual free youtube videos.

Some Invidious instances have the download feature enabled. Useful if you're on someone else's computer and can't install anything, or just don't want to leave your browser (but jDownloader has a Web UI :P).
