Okay not to sound crazy but how many of you went out and camped at BestBuy last night??? I DID!!!!

i was wondering how poeple did in there sprees, i am going to plug in a ATI 9600 today and run it through the tests... i also will be messing with four new 120 gig hard drives... only $50 each... hehehehehe :o  it was fun.... anyway obviosly different places equals different stores (kind of) and different prices, i am somewhat curios if anyone got any outragous deals etc... i also got a DVD burner and i will be reflecting on it's qaulity when i can... and a 1000 (don't know what unit of measure) backup unit that says it will power my computer for 30 minutes or more... (i laugh at this, but we will see)

And happy thanksgiving...

(one day late lol)

yeah poeple were grabbing lots of the ram, i got a whole box, it is only 2100, but ya know what, my clients will buy it just as they will buy a 3200 and never now the difference because they are mainly old folks... (70+) hehehehe :P

any way i think the day was productive, i am going to compare the ATI 9600 against a ATI 8500 Radeon All-In-Wonder card... see what happens... hehehe :P

i don't know... the refresh rates at 1200x ??? on both of the cards when compared favors the 8500 but we will see i will benchmark them, and then use them for halo, and see if i can get the game to play without lag... lol

the 8500 is an older card. unless u want the aiw features, it's not really that good

SciManAl
11-28-2003, 06:03 PM
well i understand the the fact that it is old, but there is simply the fact that the 9600 is not XT or PRO so it is a close race, and older PRO equivelent card versus a new reg card...

no you cant.
http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9600/rad...ro/compare.html (http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9600/radeon9600pro/compare.html)
Theres a big difference in clock and ram speeds.
The ram used on a non pro cant be oced to 600 mhz.(300 ddr)

Ok everyone here we go,

The 8500 putt up a good fight, but it lost by a hair... (also note that the 8500 was about $200 more...) that was with benchmark...

As for what i "felt" (yes very scientific) the cards feel like they are close in comparison on games like Copunterstrike, however ther was a very big difference when i put in HALO, the support for direct x 9.0 was a very evident feature, and i also hooked up duel moniters with the DVI to CRT converter thingy...
and so that was fun! speed and qaulity in picture when compared with MAYA 5.0 high poly render models it looked very close the 9600 has a little more detail... And the reall choice here would be if you want to watch TV while playing CS or have duel moniters... :P , but if you guys are asking if it is a good card, then YES, it is, i got very smooth HALO gameplay witch says allot... It OCs a little, but i was hesitant to go to far, because the card has passive cooling, or metal fins painted black(high qaultiy paint, you know the magneticly thingy lol) but it was ok, if you go pro with this card you are defintly going to cruise through the games with no problem, not to mention the 3D rendering i have been doing... overall great card, and a great ATI driver to match!! very stable, this card fixed all my bros computers probles with compatibilty, this card doesn't have many fancy features like the 8500 with it's TV feature, but it does support duel moniters and with XP that means Extended desktop! I will recomend this to any one that is looking for a great card for cheap! for an ATI card it is very nicely priced, and it made me smile! good bye 8500...

yes. the 9600 uses a completely different video chip than the 8500. the 9500, 9600, 9700 and 9800 all use the same chip design (R300) with various clock speeds and board layouts. the 8500, 9000, 9100 and 9200 use the previous chip design (R200).

i just looked through my local Best Buy & Circuit City adverts. lotsa good bargains, like free gifts (GameCube or Portable DVD player) with DirecTV subscriptions or the LiteOn DVD burner & Radeon 9600 for less than $100 each. not seeing anything i really want badly though.

i'm trying to save up for a better TV, 'cause my 20" screen with only a composite input just ain't cutting it anymore. :P

SciManAl
11-28-2003, 11:15 PM

11-29-2003, 12:08 AM
you could order it for the same price from bestbuy.com. i'm sure the rebate still applies.

edit: nevermind. looks like the website has a higher price.

Timz
11-29-2003, 12:37 AM
I checked the site, its out of stock, is there a way to get a rain check (so teh price stays the same, even after the sale has ended) , or is that not allowed on on-sale items?

Wish I could have gotten there when I wanted to go to best buy, but my ride said they left me because they couldnt wake me up, so by the time I got there at 10 all the 9600's were gone, so I just digged around in the DVD Bin and got some DVD's.

65 bucks for a 9600 owns all.

You can always steal the graphics cards.

Just bring a box cutter, a long sleeved shirt, 3 friends, and an old Best Buy bag.
