I'm pretty sure you could build a system with those specs for less than 1600 bucks.

You can find the AMD 64 3200 for around 400, you looking at another 150 for a good mobo. and after that the only two really expensive componets are the hard drive and video card.

Which the hard drive there is a 160 gb, but it's only got 2mb cache.
and the video card isn't top of the line.

Actually now that I'm thinking about it, you can build a better system for less than that.

My problem with deals like this is that I always wonder what I'm being charged for all the bundled crap that is included.
I already have a better mouse/keyboard.
I don't want a printer and that's not the monitor I would choose.
And I certainly don't want or need Windows XP Home and Corel WordPerfect, etc.

What brand of memory have they chosen? Probably not what I would pick.

One of these days the manufacturers are going to wise up and quit selling PCs as complete packages. Everybody already has all the peripherals (if not multiples :D ) and is really only upgrading the chip/board,HDD anyway. They should just sell the towers and have everything else, including software, be an addon.

I don't know about that Clocker, I think that day will be a long time coming.
As long as ppl keep buying, they can always run the price up with all the extras.
And the majority of ppl out there will still pay it.

abspc.com <----- the best place to get prebuilt pc's. They give u all the hardware manuals, discs, and extra peices in a VERY handy yellow organizer. With reasonable prices.

Right now the only thing anyone would be using it for is playing games, everything else doesn't really have a boost in performace.

At least not until software gets released that supports 64 bit computing.
