its all really a matter of opinion, i feel safe with what im using, and its picked the nasty "handy virus" up, im using norton 2003 pro, however i also recommend pccillin and mcafee and currently have them all shared....

I had mcafee on my PC last year and it really slowed down the performance of it so I uninstalled it and then found that non of my MS Office programmes would work anymore (including Outlook).

I then uninstalled and reinstalled Office, but no joy.

I had a scout about on the net to see if anyone else had had the same problem after uninstalling and they had. It would appear that Mcafee attaches itself to Office and takes some vital componants with it when you uninstall. It's a pity that they don't bother to tell you that at the outset.

So. the moral of the story is - Mcafee is for life not just for Christmas kids!!!

This is my opinion and that of several close friends, PC-Cillin 2003 is the way to go. In my experience the only people I have ever known to get infected by a virus were running Norton, now I am not bad mouthing Norton, it may have been the users fault in not keeping it updated, however PC-Cillin in my opinion updates more frequently (every day or sometimes several times a day and it totally automatic. My pick is PC-Cillin and I have used Norton and Mcaffe in the past.

Also i was wondering how Pc-Cillin 2003 went with the computer, like McAfee hinders preformance badly, and Nortons also slows down the computer a little, how does pc-cillin affect your computers preformance?

cillin will not take as much resources as norton and others tend to do......

I never use a Virus scanner, I want maximum system performance.
Perhaps you think that is a foolish decision.
Normally I just can"feel" if my computer has a virus. Because you can hear the CPU processor doing abnormal things after opening a file, or the system is slower, or you can check out the task manager.
I had virusscanners before but they never detected any virusses. But they were there, You can detect them for your self. Example, Winlogon.exe is always at 20%CPU buzzy, I searched on the internet with that problem, found a solution, downloaded a virusscanner for "Worm KLEZ" and voila. But that virus was on mynotebook (http://www.optillusions.com/illusions/whats-wrong.swf) and I hate my notebook.
So my faith in virusscanners is empty.

I like Norton Anti Virus 2002. I never had a problem and it has caught every virus (through email and Kazaa).

I tried to use the 2003 version but I was unable to use it, it kept telling me that the trial version has expired. So if anybody knows where I can get a full working version, please let me know.

Thank you!

To all those who don't use AV. Your complete idiots. Probably posted this to piss us off. But your so damned stupid. Probably stupid enough that you don't share to. In your cases i hope you don't. Man, people like you make these things spread. :angry:

@Xyrex
It's so easy to use them, put in a bit more mem if you think they use to many resources. Just tweak them nice you won't even notice that they're running. So be wise if not for you then to for all the other people start using them.

First of all, YANKS SUCK! They lost to the sorry ass Angels. Second of all, I have been using Norton since day 1 and it has saved countless times. It's fast and invisible. People who get infected are either too lazy or too stupid to keep their definitions up to date, or they just unlucky and get hit with an unknown virus. Maybe all the people who hear about getting infected use Norton is because Norton is more popular.

I disagree. I would say Intel and AMD are pretty even. Let's stop before we get too off topic and piss off the moderators. :P

So which AV is the BEST?????

Xyrex, I totally understand what you are saying. I don't use a virus scanner either and I've also learned to kinda "feel" as you put it if I have a virus. I've learn to identify them pretty well. To scan my computer for viruses I usually use a free online virus scanner called housecall.
--------------------------------------------------
--->http://housecall.trendmicro.com<---
--------------------------------------------------
To remove the virus I either download a free tool or search on how to manually remove it and do it myself.

If you want to know what the best Antivirus prog is read internet reviews. Find one that fits your needs. If I were you I'd pick something small that won't slow don't your comp like shit.

For those that don't use an antivirus... Get one and use it. If you don't want to use one stay off Kazaa! And if you think it's ok just to "feel" it when it happens then I must tell you that's too late. I hope you get one that completly destroys all your data and setup then maybe you'll learn.

As for the best antivirus? I use Norton 2003. I have tried them all and I like this the best. I use Norton Internet Security 2003 it has AntiVirus and Firewall in a complete security package all built together.

Havn't got anything that erased anything yet. I think I'm doing good so far...
It's funny, because two of my friends had anti-virus software installed and they both got a virus that fucked their hard drive. I use good judgement.

Norton 2003 for the occasional comp scan and email scanning.
