Hey guyz, I live in NZ and i was wondering wot you guyz would recommend i get.

Im trying to deliver the best graphics my card can get (GeForce FX5200 128Mb AGP x8) but i think my motherboard is slowing it down. Heres my specs.

My current motherboard: MS - 6367 (win32 based board) (and i think it only has 4xAGP)

512 Mb RAM
2gb Athlon processor
60gb HD
Win XP

Im puzzled because my friend has a Geforce 4 MX 64Mb yet his graphics run way smoother than mine. We have the same spec computer. I have all the latest drivers. ....He even scores a higher benchmark test than me when his resolution is on 1600 x 1200 and mine is only 800 x 600. :(

Thanx for ya help

Try this Abit NF7s (http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=6) board, I have one. Great for gaming.

Hi Dray,

I have a Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev2.0 and it's got more sh*t than you can shake a stick at.
I recommend it highly.
Lamsey recommends it highly...he's the guy who turned me on to it.

In New Zealand? Ouch,

And btw, what speed is your Ram, and what kind of AMD CPU do you have, because you might not need the ASUS or ABIT high end mobo's if you arnt really running a barton.

Dray_04

What he means Dray is that the Asus that I have and other, better boards really shine if you have fast RAM and clockable chips. Although it may still make sense if you plan on upgrading those two components anytime soon, you won't really get the full benefit with your current stuff ( although it's hard to tell about your RAM as "512" isn't much of a description...).

What is the currency over there?

lol @clocker

if ur sooo brainy then u obviously would have figured out that 512 Ram culdve been 512 MB ram.... oh could it be 512 Kb Ram......geez thats slow. nah it culda been 512 Gb Ram ay ? ....woah thats alot.

I am going to upgrade both my MoBo and Mem. but i just wanted some opinions on how upgrading will make my graphics way better. otherwise it must be the G card

I dont experience any lag running games at 1600 x 1200(e.g. Call of Duty/Hidden & Dangerous 2/All Rallly Games I've tried) not tried Unreal Tourny yet but I'm sure it would run fine.

Possibly because I have an Athlon 2800Barton chip and a G-Force 4 Titanium 4600 with 1GB of pc3200 400MHz DDR ram installed.

look at your system specs compared to dray_02's, before posting (or are you just showing of or trying to increase your post count <_< :P )

@dray_02, look on your memory it will tell you a speed, such as pc2700 or ddr333

are you just showing of (ahem..off) or trying to increase your post count

Yaaaawwwwnnnnn...................................................................................

No game is ever gonna run entirely based on your board.....hence why I quoted other hardware involved ...duh.

Of course I'm trying to increase my post count....so that I can get extra points towards that new toaster I seen in Argos.

yeah thats right, but you will want to upgrade that to 2x512mb 3200's

Seems to me that, with his chip, PC 2700 would do fine.

Dray_04
12-02-2003, 03:11 AM
so its the memory thats making my graphics dumb?

so if i upgraded to a 1gB RAM 2700 it wud run sweet....

...no need for a motherboard upgrade?

clocker
12-02-2003, 03:19 AM
No, you still need a board that will support 8x AGP.

You don't need 1GB of RAM, probably 512MB would suffice.
Fast RAM is nice, but it's overkill if your chip won't keep up.

Have you mentioned exactly what AMD you have?

just to let u know for further reffrence that PC2700 is the same thing as DDR333. just like PC2100 is DDR266 and PC3200 is to DDR400. again just letting u know. and DDR333 is pretty good RAM.
