Nice one [B][O][T], and good idea Buken, I was going to ask but couldn't be arsed at the time. I've gone for outlook express but this will greatly be helpful to be as I'll switch to the one which is voted best. :)

Just because something is popular, doesn't neccesarily mean it is the best. I hope everyone who votes also posts their choice, so we can see who uses what. ;) :)

I agree bukem, but it's also a good idea of what would be a decent one to go far.
The majority wouldn't go for crap ... though then norton comes into the scene.

I'll try some, opinions on why you chose will be helpful to I'm sure. :)

FYI, Mozilla, Thunderbird and Foxmail are all free. I know that theoretically everything is free when it comes to software, but i actually like it when free means free. :)

Well, that is a web browser really, and not an email client. Actually, it might have been interesting to see how many people use web mail. If a mod reads this, please could they edit the poll to take this into account?

I've been using the old Netscape Messenger 4.8 -- That's part of Netscape Communicator 4.8.

I have just recently setup Mozilla Thunderbird 0.3 and I like it so far.

I've been trying Geminisoft's Pimmy (http://www.geminisoft.com/geminisoft.eng/).
Freeware and small enough to run from a floppy disc.
It's not bad... but I'm still looking for a better client.

Will be trying out Mozilla Thunderbird over the next few days.

For those of you running Thunderbird, here's a tool for minimizing it to the system tray.

I have allways used Outlook (not Express) since i can remember. I have a short memory, so it might not have been that long. But i also use Mailwasher to edit the crap i dont want before i download it.

Ive tried a few other clients, but this works very well for mói ;)

Peace

You might find that if you spent two minutes configuring an email client to receive your hotmail, then it would actually be less hassle than having to enter your account details every time. :)
As webmail goes Hotmails service is really crap anyway, only 2mb of storage and spammed to death. You should check out Fastmail (http://www.fastmail.fm/)s free service. It has 10 mb of storage, web access, virus protection, great spam protection. I use there paid service for only £13 a year and it's brilliant. :)

@JAY. Did you know that Yahoo mail has pop access? That means you could use an email client if you wanted to. Yahoo mail settings. (http://edit.my.yahoo.com/config/set_popfwd?.src=ym&.done=http%3a//uk.f606.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Options%3fYY=79490)

whats the difference between outlook and outlook express?

LTJBukem
11-30-2003, 06:18 PM
Outlook Express is a basic email client.
Outlook also features a calender, a diary, and some other stuff for office use that i can't remember.

Looks quite pleasant, easy to set up. I will certainly give it a bash and see how it goes.

Place a shortcut in the start menu Startup folder.

I found a quite intresting site for checking you e-mail client security against viruses, exploits, bugs and so on. My Outlook Express 6.0 SP1 succeeded all tests with all updates installed from windowsupdate.com.

Using Thunderbird as well. Also having an account at fastmail. You can actually configure your account in fastmail to retrieve hotmail messages. So Thunderbird is retrieving my pop3 mail and it is retrieving my fastmail messages along with my hotmail messages cause fastmail retrieves them. I hope you now what I mean. check it here. Lotus Notes here. All that Micro$soft garbage, no thanx. IBM still makes good software. UNIX is dead but Domino lives on.

At a mail domain I admin a user downloaded a worm and tried to start the file like 10 times before he called me. Thank God for *.NSF and not *.PST. Only 1 PC was affected from 200.

I use Lotus Notes at home. It's free and feels better than all that exchange based crap. It doesn't matter if it's hotmail or msn it's micro$oft and it's the Mighty Bill behind the scenes laughing while counting his $$$.

I agree with you, but i don't think Bill is getting much money from this forums members. I guess maybe from advertising revenue at hotmail, but doubt that very much as well.

Thunderbird does not support hotmail. You will however be able to configure fastmail to retrieve your hotmail messages. Nostalgia kindly provided a link earlier, where was it? Oh yes, here (http://www.fastmail.fm/docs/faqparts/PopLinks.htm#NewPopServer) it is. :)

Here's a preview of ThunderBird.

Microsoft Office 2003 CD1, it's availible in stores (and in KaZaA and eMule as well [hehehe] :) )...

Edit: If you don't want to use other MS Office 2003 progucts you can install only Outlook using custom installation.

That's why I only give my new Hotmail email address to people I know, and I have had no problems with this so far.
I used to have an email address when I was younger, and I used to give it out on many websites, and then I used to get loads of strange unwanted emails everyday. So then I had to change my email address, I am more careful now, and have no problems.
I also use MSN messenger to sign me in automatically.
