I SIGNED UP FOR THE GIGANEWS BLACK FRIDAY DEAL $69US ,,,MAINLY FOR THEIR SEARCH PROGRAM.......WHICH IS RATED SO HIGHLY ON MANY REVIEW SITES !!!

THE REVIEWS ARE VERY VERY FAKE !!!!!!

DO NOT BELIEVE THE REVIEWS OR GIGANEWS PROMOTION OF """"Mimo Usenet Browser + Search | Usenet made Easy """"

NOT ONLY DOES IT NOT WORK ON WINDOWS 8 /8.1 PRO OR OR ANY VERSON OF WINDOWS 10 ,,,,, IT WON'T EVEN INSTALL .....

GIGANEWS CHAT SUPPORT CONFESSD THEYED BEEN HAVING ONGOING MIMO BROWSER SEARCH INSTALLATION PROBLEMS SO FAR UNSOLVABLE.

SO I IMMEDIATELY CANCELLED MY TRIAL AFTER HOURS OF DOING MY OWN PROBLEM SOLVING. ( TECHIE - BEEN WORKING ON NETWORKED SYSTEMS SINCE 1973 . 5 CORPORATIONS IN NORTH AMERICA WERE INTERNATIONALLY NETWORKED AT THE TIME- I WORKED FOR 1 OF THE BIGGEST)

TODAY WHILE CHECKING MY MASTERCARD STATEMENT i SEE A GIGANEWS CHARGE OF $127.63 ................VERY VERY FAR FROM $69 ....

SO MULTIPLE FRAUDS .... OVERCHARGING WHEN A CUSTOMER SIGNS UP FOR A DEAL AND THE BUSINESS BREAKS THE DEAL ..THE CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATION IS CANCELLED BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER AUTHORIZED ONLY.$69

I SURE AM KICKING MY OWN ASS ...BECAUSE I BROKE MY OWN POLICY OF PAYPAL ONLY ...IF PAYPAL DOESN'T TRUST THEM WALK AWAY !

AFTER ON AND ON CHATTING AN AGENT SAID I SHOULD ???????????? GET A REFUND IN 7 TO 10 BUSINESS DAYS ........ SOUNDS LIKE EXPECT $ WHEN PIGS CAN FLY

In my opinion, you should not have fallen for this "search program" stuff in the first place. If you need a Usenet client, there's SABnzbd or NZBGet. If you need an indexer, there are several good ones, including this very site. If you need a VPN service, there are also several good ones (and Giganews' is known to actually keep logs and snitch on their customers). Just let the Usenet provider do their one job and handle the rest yourself - when they try to do everything, they rarely get everything right.

Good luck with the refund. Since you paid via credit card, there will be a paper trail stating what you paid for and how much it should have actually been, so you have the upper hand. It's just going to take some days of your time and struggling...

I kicked GN to the curb years ago just because their retention sucked...

No there retention is the best period, there blocks/takedowns are the worst;)

wording matters in that situation:P

Over the years when i used them, i had troubles with charges and stuff, they are pretty good and refund everything they say they will. It is still the best and efficient Usenet company out there, just not good for the things we like to use it for:D

No there retention is the best period
This has not been true of Giganews for quite a while now. Their retention plummeted a few years back, and I never saw an explanation why. Giganews now only advertises "3+ years of binary retention". Omicron/Highwinds backed services are over 12 years of binary retention.

Interesting:unsure:

" Highest quality retention since 1994
3+ years of binary retention and 17+ years of text retention
Full speed across entire binary retention
Multiple article copies"

Again not sure on the interpretation:idunno:

I myself have not used them for years either, goes back to there Blocks/Take-downs for my personal use/interest...... It was never based on a speed or retention issue..

The bigger question was were they actually Take-downs/removals from the Binary groups?? Or are they just "Blocks/Access" to them??

Is it really a Hanukkah miracle when you click on the same NZB using different Usenet providers and one downloads the files and the other provider gives you air??

If you don't know the difference between binary vs. text posts, then I must revoke your Usenet card :P

Anyway, Giganews' "3+ years" is fairly low considering other providers advertise 2000 days and beyond. Of course, there's retention and retention... having a few thousand days doesn't matter if the missing article rate is high.

That may save me from being frustrated or upset from having a failed drive full of downloaded shit:)

Well anytime i see a "+", Anon, to me having a big number as you said and all you get is air when you try to download doesn't give you a very good reputation ;)..
The problem was always Giganews was always considered the best, and it put a target on it's back for takedowns, again we may use there service for certain reasons, but that is not where they generate there biggest revenues. It was really just a side bonus to them...

Even if you could access 6 years plus they were told to block access to those files 5 and 3/4 years ago anyways;)...
I remember a few offshoots of Gigianews selling Usenet services, and they were restricted how far you could go back vs Giganews who are the owners of those servers we are trying to access.....
My point really was exactly what you are saying, the number is useless if the files are blocked by the provider, and i guarantee you can go more than 3+ years with Giganews hens the "+" .....

Again your point is noted buddy:happy:

Canceled my Giganews sub a few years back, got too expensive. Used to have great retention.

I binned GigaNews because it had too many missing files and they were expensive. Other sites with good completion now have very good retention with well over 4000 days.

Giganews has been demoted to AAA quite a while back. I'm talking like 2010 back.

It's just not Major Leagues anymore.

I left Giganews after several years, as I noticed they had cheaper prices for new customers and they never said anything, so I overpaid for years.

Fufu, they weren't the ones who invented this tactic, trust me.

10 years ago Giganews was great, but they have definitely gone down hill.

Like many others, I had Giganews several years ago too -- and for a few years. Now, they're more expensive than better services. Sad but true how the mighty have fallen.

I too had Giganews for many years and switched over to Newshosting about a year ago, better and cheaper.

Giganews is where I started back in the day when I found out on a broadband forum that my ISP bundled it for free albeit speed restricted.
