I was hoping one of the other people would be able to do this but they had problems with kazaa so I started late last week. Here's the finished product.

klr.exe for kmd 2.6.0

http://www.geocities.com/klrismypwd

don't download the source code unless you understand assembly language

from readme.txt:

IMPORTANT
=========

It'll probably crash in kernel32.dll if you use Win95/98/ME. (Technical info, don't ask what it means) The reason is probably because it sets up its own exception handler using the temp stack and an exception occurs. Windows only seems to support setting up exception handlers on the real stack. It crashes when loading one DLL (ends in OSS.DLL, and could be spyware, or the DLL after it).

I'll fix it if any Windows 2000/XP user is having this problem.

Installing it
=============

* Install KMD 2.6.0 (you need kazaa.exe and a few registry keys)
* Copy klr.exe to same folder as kazaa.exe (usually in "C:\Program Files\Kazaa")
* Double-click klr.exe instead of kazaa.exe to start it

Enhanced features in no particular order
========================================

* Starts faster and uses less memory
* No unnecessary DLLs loaded
* Unlimited search mores
* Unlimited number of search tabs
* No loading of Gator spyware
* You can block any site you wish in your HOSTS file
* PL is set to 1000

Anyone wanting to get rid of all ad links (not cd_clint.dll since it's gone) can unpack kazaa and change the resource section with ResHacker, or you can block all ad links in your HOSTS file.

That is all.

MD5 sum of Kazaa.exe 2.6.0:
MD5 (kazaa.exe) = 0c722b3aefd621788582a024cf30703a

Just to avoid any discussion. There won't be a 'lite' version made on this forum. But I am sure that someone will eventually make it like Yuri, Shaun or Dr. Damn. There is no point in begging or commenting, all will be deleted.

so if i run this i don't have spyware at all of 2.6? so also no Altnet?? (and i guess i have to get rid of the spyware installed in the 1st place manualy?) btw can kl extensions be loaded instead of cd_clint? or not? and last but not least, will there be more options such as 'user can't cut in line' and 'ip blocker'? or does this prog. stands besides k++?

you need kmd2.6 for it to work. it adds new features to the program. it doesn't remove your spyware. use other programs to remove them if you can't do it manually.

And I won't add any new features to it. There are many reasons for that, such as hardly anyone who is serious into p2p is using kazaa for anything more than a few mp3s, I don't have time, etc.

now about 2.8 million users are online and it's usually slightly more than 3 million online at most. 6-12 months ago there were 4+ million users connected to the network. sharman networks must be getting desperate now. soon they won't be number 1.

No special regsitry keys are needed I think. Just the standard kazaa keys.

There are a lot of registry keys. Install either Kazaa or Kazaa Lite to get them.

HKCU\Software\Kazaa
HKLM\Software\Kazaa

well i found the the 2.6.0 version of kazaa.exe on eMule:

ed2k://|file|kazaa.exe|2441216|34a3aa73a15ae5fdda86e992c9d09fb8|/

or here is the sig2dat:

File:kazaa.exe
Length:2441216 Bytes, 2384KB
UUHash:=zaH/TnTIHzh4geP5sZmmzugxPNM=

I popped it and klr.exe in my kazaa folder and it works like a charm.

yes, rn isnt going to make a new k++ and paul says the current version is as good as it will get (he might make a lite version of kazaa v 3 though) best thing for you to do is to manually make a lite version

Explosive, to make a manual 'lite' version of kazaa 2.6 follow insructions: (or if you have msn messenger pm me and i will send you the needed files via there :) )

1) download and install kazaa 2.6
2) copy the folder to another location and uninstall it (or get the kazaa.exe from elsewhere) and run adaware (thanks Sarkie_2002, but spybot sucks :) )
3) download klr
4) install a version of kazaa lite (for registry keys) and delete the files it creates (keep the unistaller though, just incase you want to delete registry keys etc)
5) put klr in the same dir as kazaa.exe (i also kept the magnet link program)
6) run klr
7) block sites with your host file (ads while you search)

yes it will work still (it does and mine and i never actually installed 2.6 the crap that came with it, as i formatted straight after), the whole idea of the klr loader is to eliminate the dll's and spyware

RileyF's right ... manually doing stuff is no fun .. besides, wht u've said wouldn't even go towards being a k-lite version .. klr.exe doesn't do everything that we would like (although it's superb considering that it was done even without the asm listing of kazaa2.6's exe file)

if u have the asm listing, then here's what all u can do ...

(1)check out the addresses of the LoadLibrary calls and the GetProcAddress calls that use the spyware from the dlls, and then either NOP them if its possible, or try to jump over them ... ( a simple way would be to make another dll with the same Proc Table, but then again, that's no fun)

(2)using resource hackers, u could make changes to the GUI, (e.g, change bitmaps ... ok..this is not necessary, but u could also do stuff like get rid of menu options, maybe even add some of your own if its possible.

there might be even more stuff you can do .. but i just want the asm listing so tht i can try out option (1) above ..

I still can't remove the ads above search. Must not be entering it right or something. :(

Now that I can use K-dat and k-sig/sig2dat even though I have to go to folder, If I
just had accelerator now and an updated (255+) kazupernode list it just might be tolerable. But while I'm making a wish list.... Would be nice to change home/web page, (don't know if I'll get used to that ) will just make an effort not to go there not that important. What about the large ad to the right of p2p search? Is there a chance to get rid of it? I'm assuming since an earlier poster specifically mentioned removing ad above the ongoing search, adding files in host only removes that ad alone right? wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong there. Sounds simple enough. :unsure: But atleast no adware/spyware or ads in traffic, My kazaa next to theatre controls. My Kazaa...*bitter taste in mouth*
I noticed one day last week for a brief period there were 4mil+ online, tonight 2.75mil. Not good. :(

I thought this was right but I guess not. :ph34r:

Example
# 127.0.0.1 #PRE #DOM:<domain> ssa.kazaa.com #blocks search ads
# 127.0.0.1 #PRE #DOM:<domain> ssm.kazaa.com #blocks channel directorys
you have to restart kazaa and/or reboot for it to work

KaZaA GUI Hacker_v15.zip (use with caution, can cause kazaa to crash)

SuperTrick - hosts.zip
HostsTool.exe

they all work with klr/kazaa260

EDIT: added Help.zip for kazaa's internal menus

I don't know what you mean. KLR changes Kazaa so that it doesn't depend on any extra DLLs, which includes but is not limited to cydoor, and gator. KLR will not delete these DLL files; you'll have to do it yourself if they're bothering you. :D

Guess it'll sound like I'm never satisfied, but...True I don't have any ads but is there anyway to substitute the "page can not be displayed" with anything?

Also like now in Kazaa desktop I'm using kazaa to browse forum but get an IE script error message everytime I change pages, any ideas how to stop this? But probally wont use this for forum much anyway because also can't copy/paste.

ok, im a little confused :huh: Why is everybody switching back to KMD 2.6? I mean, after all I read in this thread it seems that KMD 2.6 has spyware that you gotta take out and it doesnt have any extentions. So why just stay with Kazaa Lite 2.34 or what ever the new version is out? I know that the Kazaa Like sites are running (Dont know why though) but that shouldnt stop Kazaa Lite from working with the network and all right? Or no? I'm still confused! :unsure:

When you say Unlimited search mores, is this simlilar to Auto search more in K++? If so, how do you turn it on? Or does that just mean that we have to manually hit Search More in KLR but can do so forever. It's a PITA to have to keep clicking it manually all the time.
