Hey, a mate asked me to help him choose a laptop and i was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. He's looking to spend about 1000 quid (~$1500 US), the laptop should be general purpose as he's not a big gamer but would probably like to be able to run recentish games on it (eg Unreal II / 2003 ). Battery lifetime isn't really a big concern as chances are he won't use it much on the move.
My thoughts so far were along the lines of:
> 2GHz P4 or AMD (prob AMD cos they seem generally cheaper)
512MB ram
2 or more USB 2 slots (seems standard)
CDRW
64MB graphics (I'm gonna double check on the games thing)
Bigger the screen the better, are there different types of screen, any i should look out for / avoid?
Wireless networking might be nice, but can be added later
don't need firewire, but that seems standard as well.
