So I just purchased a Retroid Pocket 2+. Who can point me to decent sources for all kinds of ROMs to load up?

https://www.romulation.org/ was my go-to source back in the day, and still exists (although my account doesn't :P).

http://redump.org/ is good for integrity checking and knowing which exact version of a game you've got.

Doesn't look like you get to download anything from ROMulation unless you pay for a membership? No free teasers or daily download limit of 1? Not that $10 really matter in the grand scheme of things, but is the website "legit" (no pun intended)?

I guess a download marathon over a long weekend would fill the RP2+. No need to renew membership? :)

News to me. Last time I was there, you could download for free as long as your account had enough points (which were generously awarded on a daily basis by doing nothing), and their help page says this is still so?

Ah, points. Did not see anything abut that. Did notice that the forum activity seems to have stopped around 2020, though, so that made me somewhat uncertain whether the site was still active.

No matter. Found two other sites that will tide me over for the moment. Downloading is a little inconvenient, but I'll manage...

or just use the Wayback machine https://archive.org/search.php?query=roms

Thanks. Will come in handy repopulating my Shield after wiping all emulators

Okay, follow-up question. Got my RP2+, set it up, everything seems to be working. And I already learned that there is a whole bunch of crap out there. So which are the must-have games that I should be looking out for? Let's assume for the moment a focus on the Nintendo ecosystem...

Super Mario Bros., Contra, Final Fantasy I, Metal Gear, Tetris, The Legend of Zelda, 1942, Pac-Man, Metroid, Gradius, Elevator Action. Then you can move on to the SNES and Front Mission, Flashback and the first Mega Man X entries... oh, and someone made an English patch for TokiMemo?

For someone who moved from the original Pong to an Atari 2600 and then from a Commodore 64 straight to the PC all that means nothing...

Well, I guess I recognize Tetris and Pac-Man. :D

The RP2+ is really good at handling N64 ROMs, so I guess I finally get to play Golden Eye.

You could have started with the Vic-20 as I did. :pinch:

Yeah, any version of Metal Gear was the shite back then. ;)

You are both making me feel young: ColecoVision, C64

Well, without darkness (the Atari port of Pac-Man) there can be no light (Gyroscope).

Then now's your chance to make it mean something ;)

I have very limited experience with the Nintendo 64, but Mario 64 is basically its killer app, and Doom had an excellent port which surpasses the original in every aspect.

Excellent game, but its non-linear structure (you could get card #4 before #1) and large amounts of backtracking made it so difficult. I never completed it back then, and wouldn't learn how it ended and who the enemy commander was until much later in life :P

Hah! My neighbor had one and I got to borrow it every so often before I got the C64. Spent hours typing in BASIC listings out of some book or magazine. Of course I did not have any way to save those files, so the next time around you'd start all over again. :D

Skipped the datasette on the C64 though and jumped straight to the 1541.

Ugh. Bitter memories of not having a certain 32 KB expansion cartridge are surfacing now...

Idiots. Stuffs is better now.
It's like, once there was the Beatles but then Arianna Grande came along and we realized what a pile of stinking feces the Fab Four actually were.
Anyway, when in Rom do as the Romulans do I guess, geezers.

If Idol was a car, he would have no brakes and a really loud horn. Besides, some of us still remember your posts about the Apple IIc's greatness :sneaky:

Where's Gribley, he would have interesting input to offer here :emo:

Brakes are for cowards. You should only stop when you run of of gas, hit something immovable or drive of a cliff and explode in a glorious fireball of patriotism... or in the case of bicycles, when you crash into the back of a car that suddenly stopped in front of you because it ran out of gas.

I typed those games in from the last pages of the Commodore magazine. Most of them didn't even run properly!

Running out of gas doesn't work that way, Calvin's dad.

Not enough RAM for large DIM arrays? No support for all plot instructions? No game for you.

Sure, that's what the government would like you to believe.

According to the commentary, this crash occurred because one of the lead cars ran out of gas in front of the riders.
