And when did support for Win95 seemingly stop? I've read the FAQ, btw.

Im not sure, but i think v202 works on W95, i know v172 (http://bitzi.com/lookup/NJJGEJYAQXAA2E4PM6GS55IZANV6JWQ4) does.
Try the current ver.2.4.3e (http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/pc/bazar/kazaalite/) I think it will work on Win 95 ;)

If your computer is fast enough for the nex version of windows then I reccommend you "buy" a copy of Microsoft Windows (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/default.mspx) 98 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/)/XP (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/default.asp). Whatever you do, don't get Windows Millenium (http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=1&q=http://www.microsoft.com/windowsme/default.asp&e=7385) because it is basically Windows 98 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/) with Internet Explorer 6 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp) and Windows Media Payer 9 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player.aspx).
