You have a musical Member?

I take it you work on the novelty lines then?

There isn't an automatic method to assign members to different user groups, and I don't think the admin have the time and/or effort to want to do it manually.

In layman's terms, tough shat :P

To comfort you out though, being in a unique User Group isn't as good as it seems beforehand. Pretty much a case of 'it looks greener on the other side'

Yeah, sure, I think Paul and 7thElement have a few weeks to dedicate to sorting members into groups according to preferences. Without time to sleep, eat or go to the loo.

it would be cool to have groups like that. and i want my post count back

Why ?

TheDave
12-10-2003, 01:16 AM
because everyone would rather to quickly check someones postcount than what they previously wrote. if i wanted to do that i'd go through their profile

The point is that postcount is misleading. This way people get a more accurate idea of waht a member's like. The postcount is still in the profiles, along with the 'forum most active in' statistic, which is a lot more useful than a simple postcount.

aw but then i cant use my postcount to automatically beat down n00bs... oh yeah thats the point, sorry

Afaik the forum software cannot do this. It's also pointless - you have a Custom Member Title already.

Here is one idea, i mentioned it in another thread.

How about the Member Group field is linked to where you have the maximum posts.
So if FC posts in MusicWorld his member group automatically can be MusicFreak, people who have most in Lounge can have LoungeLizards , same goes for us SoftwareWorld or HardwareWorld and other portions of the board.

What do you think?

:D Hey.Now this is not a bad idea. The only Problem is almost everybody would be a LoungeLizard.

This, even if it was possible, would place a massive strain on the server because the 'forum most active in' statistic would have to be computed for each user every time a post is viewed and the member group assigned accordingly. That's just not realistic with current server technology.

The fact is that such a thing is gimmicky and serves no purpose at all. If you want to identify yourself with a forum or phiposophy, use your custom member title.

Yup. Clear out one thing for me...

"Most Active Forum" query is only made once and it is stored in a String Variable. Custom Member Group instead of taking preassigned names ("text value") can just have input as that String name instead of doing a query again. No extra query is made to get it only a reference is changed. Would this really affect the server load?

The invision board itself doesnt have an option for you to do it. A little php tweaking is required which is not that bad.

It was just an idea even I dont want it like that either. ;)
But just wondering...

Edit: Now that i think about it more, it will cause a server load when the max posts change from one member group to the other. And why would you compute each time?why not store it somewhere and reference it?

gotta go will check back later. :)

Bated, even.

I don't use the subjunctive on an international board because it confuses people who don't speak English natively. If I were to use it, it would look weird to some.

In any case, the subjunctive tense is slipping out of common usage in English.

So, in conclusion:

Not at all.

It's just another of the commonly confused words. Your/you're, their/there/they're and so on.

However, J'Pol could've baited his breath, most likely with apple.

Group and Members Post could be removed.

You can put a "Custom member title".
And Members Posts can be accessed by clicking the username and 'Find all posts by this member'

We could even remove the stars.
