There is no way to my knowledge to my knowledge to convert directly to mpeg,
you must first convert to avi quicktime itself has that option.
From the created avi-file you can make a mpg-file e.g. with
TMPGEnc. If you are new to this start with small files first
(encoding whole movies can take a long time)

it takes me 38 mins to convert mpeg to divx or xvid with flaskmpeg
but to convert with divx to mpeg using TMPGEnc it takes 1hour 30 mins
thats with a 2ghz athlon with 512 ddr memory, thats roughly a 670mb file.

Actually, you can convert directly from .mov to .mpg with TMPGenc. You just need to install the QuickTime plug-in first. You can get it here:

(could not find plugin on TMPGEnc-site itself) ;)

@kazzalitesucks : I have a PIII 600 mhz ,encoding Blade-movie took me 16 hrs
used flaskmpeg (talking about 2 1/2 yrs ago) endresult good
picquality but sound way too soft ,so now I leave ripping big
movies to ppl with better hardware :(
