1) Depends on how fast of a burner you've got, I've seen 4x burn DVDs in around 20 minutes or so.
2x usually about 40, but of course now the 8x's are starting to get fairly cheap, seen one today for $197 (U.S Currency) at Office Depot.

2) I haven't even seen a 9gb dvdr yet, do know that phillips has made a 9gb dvdr, I'm certain those are on one side though, have you seen double sided dvdrs, if you have post a link, I'd like to see that.

Answers:

1) A 4x writer should take about 15 mins to burn 4.36 Gb (you wont fit 4.7 Gb on a disk). I have a 8X writer, but cant get hold of any 8x media, might try to burn 4x ritek disks at 8 speed, if i can get hold of a few.

2) Yes, they should be able to burn double-sided, but this is not the same as 9 Gig single sided. When 9 gig single sided disks come out you will need to buy a new 9 gig compatible dvd-writer.
