I upgraded my gerforce 4 mx 420 64 mb to a nvidia geforce fx 5200 256mb and here are my results:

3d Mark 2001 : old card MX420 - Score:1,182 , new card FX5200 - Score:2,218

System Works 2004 Performance Test: old card MX420 - Score:131.1/306.0 , new card FX5200 - Score:165.5/327.1

As you can see there was a pretty big performance increase. This is for those who didnt think the FX5200 would give you a big noticable performance inhansment over the MX420.

That is a pretty big performance increase in 3d mark isn't it?

I fairly knew I'd get a big performance increase if I get a better card; I have the MX440 though, but same difference when it comes to upgrading.

But since my gf4 still plays everything I need it to I've seen no reason to upgrade, YET, I'm waiting around until Unreal Tournament 2004, and Half-Life 2 comes out, that way, I can get a really good card that will run these perfectly, but until they come out, the old gf4 is still good enough.

Its not all the card thats making the score. What are your computer specs? Mine are 1ghz processor, 856mb pc133 ram, fx 5200 256mb video card, msi ms-6330, 80 gb processor. As you can see my computer specs arent that high.

my gfx only got 940 3d marks in 03. :(

my specs are below.

however im confused because i got 4008 3d marks in 01. and ure card is 256mb and mine is 128.

so does it not matter how big the ram is on the card? say if he threw the exact card into my computer would it get a higher score than 4008 marks?

p.s is 4008 3dmarks in 3dmark01 good?

how much doesn't really matter bench and power wise. it'll only give the user more space to render graphx, but not necessarilly render at a high speed. it'll be the same as a gfx 5200 128, but u can see some improvement. so far, and not for another couple years, games won't be requiring 256mb ram on ur vd card

there are 3 possiblities y u are getting such low score,

1: you mean 3dmark03
2: you forgot to type in a number so your score is 6xxx and not 631
3: you have a video card from one of the first computer ever made

I don't think you would be able to get it to work in a new system.
I'd say one of those would most likely be ISA.
(Well, first mass-market video cards) because the first were designed just for the computers they were in, and those computers were all designed differently.

Which I haven't seen a new mobo in a while that still supports ISA, too bad too, I've got quite a few ISA cards lying around, modems, network cards.
And one that everyone is going to laugh about.

An ISA processor card, made to use dual processors on one motherboard, came around before dual-processor mobos were big, supports up to a Pentium (1).

I still have a ATI 3d Rage, too, 2mb ram, pci slot, and includes a upgrade slot on card for installing extra video ram. I remember playing dos games all the day with that card, still works too.
DAMN, I'm getting old.

Nah, I've just not been around much lately, (I've been working 50 + hours a week, plus final projects and then just finals due)

so I went back through my last posts and it was there, so I thought "hey, what the hell, I'll post"
so no diggin, but the bored part, maybe.
which is about the same as now. :P

No point to wait till Half Life 2 comes out etc. Radeon 9600 xt can handle HL2 and Doom 3 easy, might aswell upgrade now to play games like POP and Dues Ex 2 which are good.

remember that'll depend very much on the rest of the system spec too...

just because you stick a good graphics card in an antiquated pc doesn't mean you'll run hl2 or doom3 well... :)
