Problem Opening Exe Files With Netscape

I have a compag presario running windows 98 and
my problem is that just about every "exe" file I download through
netscape
7.0 ends up with the quicktime icon and is a dat file and will not open
up
for the life of me because it is trying to be opened by quicktime and
says
it cannot find a graphic importer to open the file. Is there any way I
can convert these files into a format that will allow them to be opened
properly?

You could try to rename it to an .exe file. Also check the configuration of Netscape. My guess that there's an option that needs be be checked or unchecked.
