View Full Version : Hosts File Question
In the hosts file
How do remove ads that display through a site?
The total ad source is:
http://cache.finn.no/gfx/bannerads/settinnann360_finndenrette.gif
If i just do :
cache.finn.no
it removes All images within the site-not good
and if i do:
cache.finn.no/gfx/bannerads
it doesnt do anything
what to do?
to get rid of these ads using hosts trick?
(i use edexter on the side not that this matters).

i think the supertrick can only block domains ie. cache.finn.no, which i'm going to guess is where the website stores its images
if the ads really bug you try out Admuncher
I thought so - pity......
Guess its time to move over to antipop progs
Thanx.banner.darth.insinuate.com
You can only add top level domain or sub-domain to block in a host file. If it was something like ads.whatever.com you could have added that.
So I dont think you can block only a directory.
Try one thing
cache.finn.no/gfx/bannerads/
Add that / in the end to see if it changes anything. I doubt that but just try it out.
Nope- no change
None of the other hosts entrances have /////in them they only have ........
thanx anyway
below you find one of hundred Culprites

edit:Ad
I thought so. :(
I was trying to block a directory only and sometimes it doesnt work if you dont give "/" in the end. But alas, as thought host file can only block domains or sub-domain.
As DarthInsinuate said, the other only possibility is using Zonealarm or Admuncher! :)
