I have a 32x12x40x IDE burner. No matter what software I use, if I burn a DVD rip or any other kinda file thats over 700MB my burner screws up! It says burn sucessfull and everything, but then when I try to open the burned movie, my CD-Rom drives keeps spinning and everything, but the movie wont open. Any ideas?

try upgrading ur frimware for ur bruner and see if that helps. u can get the upgrade by going to the manufacturer of ur burner's site.

Thanx! You just saved me from going out and buying a new burner. I still don't get it though, I'm using Sony CD-R's 1-40x compatable. And if its over 700MB, 32x doesn't work. I took your advice and burned a 702MB movie on 8x and it worked perfectly! :) Sometimes the answer is right under your nose I guess. :P

My burner is 52x, but whenever I use Nero I always check the box that says "Determine Maximum Speed". This tests how fast it can read the source file from your hard drive and adjusts your burn speed accordingly. I find that speed varies from time to time, I guess because of disk fragmentation, available resources, and maybe even a problem with the file itself. Sometimes it burns at 52x, but sometimes it drops it down to 40x or even lower.

Make sure you have DMA selected in your writer & HD properties too,it can make a massive difference to access speeds.

Just as an experiment you could try burning some music onto a CD,then if you get any crackles or pops playing it on a standalone CD player, you'll know your writing speed's set too high.
