This is for my friend...the 9600XT runs 175Mhz faster core and 100Mhz faster memory speed I believe...Which one is better tho?

Aight thanks adam..but what makes it better? It runs slower..is it the 8pipelines that the 9600 dont have?

the 9800 non pro is just an underclocked 9800 pro with slightly slower ram, great performance. You can usually find them for $250 at circuit city

Yeah but the 9600XT is still clocked higher..what makes it not as good?

How long will it take for games to use 256MB of ram?? Cuz he could save 150 bux and get the 128MB version and use that for an upgrade later..he says like 4 months and some games will require 256MB...i dont really believe that tho..any ideas?

Adam, he doesnt really have a budget..at first he was gona get the 9800XT but he doesnt really wana spend that much. Its all his parents money for xmas newayz lol. Hes also getting an asus mobo..prob the deluxe and a 2500XP with dual channel ram that I will be building him. He says that in 4 months games will require that much...I dont think so at all.

you will be building this? Cool:

this 9700 pro might just be a better buy (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-246&depa=1&refer=anandtechB1&catalog=48)

the 9800 non pro might cost a little more, but very similar performance. The 9800 non pro is clocked slightly slower than the pro and the ram is slower...but should be able to run at 9800 pro speeds....just like I have the 9800 pro to run at XT speeds...

even better--a 9500 pro for under 200 bucks! (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-258&catalog=48&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1)

that looks nice man... i would go with 9700... low price, hell i handed out 600 dallers for a Vid card a few years ago that today is up to par, and that one looks like it will do the same for less.

if anyone cares, i'd go with a 9700 pro if u can afford it, or a 9500 pro. the 9800 is very similar performance wise, and the 9700pro can be oced to meet 9800 specs

can you guys (that know more of Ati than me...i know nothing  ) post every 9xxx model (well not every model....) but from 9300 or 9500 up to know with its ammount of memory? i get lost when i compare :D

Hes stubborn as fuck man...He wont get the 9700Pro no WAY cuz it doesnt say 9800 on it...and like some guy at this ripoff store told him he needed PC4000 and stuff with a 2500 which is 333Mhz FSB..damn that pisses me off so now hes like...are you sure that 3200 will be enough...lol And he has to be right all the time...inferiority complex maybe..i duno but he always wants to be right so theres no way he would say "oh well the 9700Pro does look good ill get that" He doesnt know much about hardware and he is stubborn lol.

Why is the 9500Pro so good? Doesnt it have 8 pipelines or something..and why does that make it better

And how long before 256MB cards are actually USED? Or games need that much? like in months..

3rd gen noob

why not tell him to come on the forum and ask for himself?

the 9500pro is 8 pipelines

and 256mb won't be in the minimum system requirements for at least a few more years

and ur friend is really really stuborn. u don't need pc4000 to oc an amd. pc3200 is fine. as long as u get good heat disappating thingies, and u know how to configure the fsb:ram ratio in bios. i would do that, but my bios is weird and messed up

Yeah im OCing it to a 3200XP...Ram ratios..might wana tell me what the hell that is lol. Yeah but he wants it to say 9800 on it...9700Pro OCed isnt enough..lol...

How hot is the 9800 by itself...could I overclock it for him pretty good to 9800Pro specs with the stock fan and HS?

This is the one were looking at BTW...or something similar. 9800 Pro 256MB (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-280&depa=1) Ok the only 256MB I can find is a Pro..anyone know any that arent Pro so he dont gotta spend so much? Damn I wish he would just get a 9800Pro 128MB..

The 256 mb 9800 pro is a major problem because of overheating. You might as well just get the 9800 pro (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-268&depa=1)

there's not much of a point for 256 unless u want to make ur own version of finding nemo or something.

Yeah adam that was the first card i looked at! lol but he is stuck on 256MB of ram..he thinks he knows soo much about gaming because he plays starwars glaxies...oook lol yah I duno...

Also about lot of heat..He wants to stick it all in his Emachine case...which has NO case fans and with a 2500OCd an Asus mobo and a 9800 Pro 256MB..he will have to have a new case..right..

E-machines case :gossip:

You might have a prob right there A lot of OE Boxes use specific (non standard) plugs to connect the board and power supply...

As mentioned earlier heat will be a prob... When i put my machine together I cheaped out on the case (it was the only way she wouldn't through me out :o ) It's a small one like the emachine with 2 fan ports (plus PS)... Needles to say i had hack a few new holes for fans... that's what you get for 35 bucks

And as far as the video card it's your freinds money

I'm very happy with my 9600PRO and the XT i believe is still bundling Half Life 2
