if u havn't heard me talking b4, i cant change the fsb:ram ratio or vcore voltage or anything. my bios is all fucked up. if i flash bios, would i solve the prob? cuz i have the boot disk ready for flashing the bios, just need to know if it will work. thanks

EDIT: here's a link to my mobo:
http://www.cptech.com.tw/page2/productlist...&sn=87&temp1=49 (http://www.cptech.com.tw/page2/productlist.asp?page=2&prodid=87&id=2&sn=87&temp1=49)

and my bios is:
made by pheonix tech.

Abu, before flashing have you tried reseting your cmos? and do you know if the new bios can do this?

i've done that. resetting cmos only resets ur bios to default. it's doesn't really solve this prob though

Try getting a new button-cell battery, for the CMOS Chip.

Usually when settings don't get saved this is the prob.

I don't think the problem is that Abu is losing settings, it's that he can't access the settings he needs to OC.

Abu, do you know if the upgraded BIOS will enable the settings you seek?

Oh he's doing oc's or something then?

Sometimes to enable the right settings, you may have to unlock something on the cpu, make a mod on the hardware, has this been done?

Lynx is the expert at these things I think, I haven't done anything like it in quite a while.

Abu runs Intel stuff...not my area at all, so I don't know.

With my AMD board/chip, all the settings he wants are right out in the open in BIOS. No hardware trickery at all....

Heeheehee... :P

I don't know that board so I can't really help, and there's no manual on the site to look at.

I think it is unlikely that a bios upgrade will suddenly make the options available - either they will already be there or they won't. Bios upgrades are usually for bug fixes or to support more processors, not improved features on the board itself.

Abu, it may be that the features you are looking for are already present, but not described as you might be expecting. If you make a note of the bios pages related to memory and cpu timing and post the details (or scan the manual pages relating to bios setup if you've got them) it may be possible to help you.

well, under bios settings, there 3 things: 1 says fox ... 2: fox ... 3. foxspeed where i can change clock speed

in adv bios settings, theres a bunch of stuff bout 1st boot and 2nd boot and stuff, and nothing about ratios or voltages.

It really doesn't sound like it.
Doesn't your board maker tell you what the flash will do?

lynx

Clocker, I've looked at the site, it tells you almost nothing. I honestly can't understand why they've even bothered having an internet presence.

Abu, sorry to have to say this to you again, but you need to check what sort of support you are likely to get before buying hardware. In this case it is virtually nothing.

Again. If you don't know enough about what your doing, don't overclock.

You do that.
Tell them that even though Abu has the power, he doesn't have enough power.

Perhaps "ibuypower" has some to spare...

Strange, you know how, yet you can't do it. Then you come here and ask us to help you with it?

You've got to be kidding.

You either get it, or you don't.

abu_has_no_power calls Powercolor and ibuypower and asks them for help about this and...

Oh boy, would I like to be there to hear their reaction.

have you checked out the possibility that those options are available in the BIOS, but they are hidden? some BIOSes require you to press a certain key in order to reveal hidden options (like ones related to overclocking).

Jeez Abu, your manufacturer has the least helpful website that I've ever seen.
I can't manage to get into their motherboard FAQ at all.
Much less get any info about the BIOS.

Unless you can download a whole new board I'm guessing that you are SOL pal.

Abu, has it not dawned on you yet that you are asking the wrong people?

If there are hidden settings ( was this BIOS designed by the creators of MYST?) only another owner or the makers will be able to tell you.

Don't you realize that as soon as you tell them you want overclocking settings they're going to tell you... "We don't support overclocking." or something to that effect.

@clocker: $10 and a beer that that is what they'll tell him.

and yea, i know they don't support ocing, but ibuypower said they are fine with it as long as my cpu doesn't burn up. then my warranty is void. but if it doesn't burn up, it's fine. i'm not gonna oc too high. just around 2.8-3.0

bullshit

its legal in most states if they don't have the "may be monitored statement"
state_laws (http://www.callcorder.com/phone-recording-law-us.htm#State%20Laws%20(Table))
and if they do have the message that states "for quality control this call may be monitored" that means they have the right to recored you, by staying on you give complied consent, so you can recored them as 2 party consent legally

In the US a consumer has the right to record any conversation regarding a business transaction.
They record us all the time.

We knew that five days ago!

Right now it would appear that the most severe limiting factor is your inability to pick up a phone.
