Don't have time to concentrate on making completely coherent sentences:

Don't have Windows Media Player installed

Whenever I try opening a .wmv file off the internet by means of File > open, and then inserting a URL, I get this error:

Stream 0

Media Type 0:
--------------------------
AM_MEDIA_TYPE:
majortype: MEDIATYPE_Stream {E436EB83-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770}
subtype: Unknown GUID Name {6B6D0801-9ADA-11D0-A520-00A0D10129C0}
formattype: TIME_FORMAT_NONE {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}
bFixedSizeSamples: 1
bTemporalCompression: 0
lSampleSize: 1
cbFormat: 0

Any way to correct this without installing windows media player? I thought this was the purpose of the Mega/K-lite Codec Pack.

lol....first you gotta explain your problem correctly.... from what i can figure out...you are trying to stream a video from the internet.... this cant be done with programs included in k-lite or mega codecs pack.... you need an app that supports streaming (such as wmp)...

So, it would seem that MPC simply doesn't support streaming?

beats me.... i dont use any of the media players...either that wmp or wmpc....

the codecs you install (along with programs like bsplayer) are for viewing movies you got physically (in your hard drive), not streamed thru the internet
