Hi guys
I currently have a Geforce 4 mx 420 card which cannot run games like pop, dues ex 2, and gladiator SOV. It has run all other games before these new range of games fine.
My question is: would the Fx5200 card run all older games, plus this new range of games at all, preferably on high detail settings?
I need to get a new card which will be sufficient to play newer games for at least a period of a year into the future, and dont know what card to get.

The new games require DirectX 9b, and since no-one has written a software emulator for the features you need a DX9b compatible card.

The Fx5200 will handle all your older games and is also DX9b compatible. It won't give you top of the range performance but it will certainly work. I suggest you get one with at least 128MB memory to ensure compatibility with all the games.

It would run the old ones, and the new ones but not at hight detail.

I purchased the FX 5200 with 256 MB of ram and it could barley game at all.

I was upgrading from a 2 year-old ge-force 2 with 64mb ram, and I could hardly tell the difference.

The benchmarks I ran proved this. The FX scored higher, but just barley.

I returned the card.

Hey healimonster, who made the card? I mean was it PNY, or...others :D You know, the brand, the name on the box. I'd really like to know.

i have a fx5200 128mb.

it runs Halo, (low settings) LOTR return of the king (800x 600 ) comfortably.

still i would recommend you go one step better and get the 5600 at least.

Yes the mx cards are better in comparison but lack the Direct X 9 ability, that is why Im seeking to change my mx to a fx card to enable Direct X 9 to play new games.

My version of halo says it requires DX9b. How can you run that on an mx440?
