Just giving a warm happy holidays to my friends on the forum. I believe this time of year is to recognize those luxuries we take for granted on a daily basis. Did you ever stop to think how wonderful it is to take a warm shower every morning and drive to work in your own car, from your own house. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are.

I will not always agree with you, but as long as we are courteous and respectful to each other, that should lend to a better overall understanding of people from different backrounds.

I have endured several days of unhappiness here fighting against people preferring name calling and cheap shots to data and discussion. I really hate to argue politics, and prefer to discuss concepts.

I wanted to start this thread to refresh myself as to why I hang out here, nothing more.

Let me "Google" that and get back to you. I was sure the other day, and now I have my reservations. The objectivity and data base of the internet will soon bear fruit on the nature of my gender.

Did I say "fruit"? Hmm, a Freudian slip? I hope not!

All of this Merry Christmas stuff is a bit insensitive. There are plenty of non-Christian's here, who may find this offensive.

To those who fit that description, my apologies on behalf of the non-thinking Christian element. Some of us think of the feeling of others before we post.

well a large percentage of us on the board do celebrate christmas so its not really offensive for us to say happy christmas to others who do

if people are not christian then they do not have to read the thread !!

should i find it offensive when its eid ( thats the only other religion holiday i can remember!) ? personally i wouldn't so why should they ?

I am sure that many non-Christians will be offended by your post, Mr J'Politically Correct.

Members of most faith's respect the beliefs of others and are not offended by their celebrations. Those who proclaim to be offended are usually racists and bigots.

As a stodgy conservative, let me say that those who might take offense should exercise the same prerogative that allows them to change the channel, choose from a restaurant menu, or avoid walking into the wrong public restroom.

If you feel you might be offended, don't read or post in this thread.

If you find that you have read any of this before realization sets in, please feel free to sign up for reparations with the United Nations, or pursue recourse through the Hague.

J'Pol's sentiment has merit.

I don't think this thread is offensive. At the point of J'Pols post there were six (6) happy holidays compared to one (1) Merry Christmas. While the root words of holiday denote a religious event, for most of us I suggest the word is synonomous with vacation.

So Danb quite being so mean. lol

I am not in the least offended. I merely recognise that others may be.

Namzuf9 for example is a Satanist.

Celebrations of the birth of Our Lord may be offensive to him. I certainly wouldn't be best pleased if he were discussing a celebration of Satan's firstborn.

I merely use him as an example, there may be others.

Of course it says "Hey Everyone!"

Did you expect it to say "Hey Everyone! Except all you non-christians because I don't care if you have a good Christmas" ? That would have been offfensive.

And I wasn't making generalisations. Plenty of my friends are non-christians, and they all wish me Merry Christmas at this time of year. They get VERY angry about the sort of message you were posting J'Pol.

So your statistically significant cross section is how many - 10,000, 100,000 .... just a ball park figure will do.

Oh and I think not Christian, would possibly be a better way of putting it. Your method suggests there are two types of people.

Don't be ridiculous.

People may have a holiday at a certain time of the year. Eat turkey and exchange cards and gifts.

That is not celebrating the birth of Christ. Happy holidays to them, but is not the same thing.

not trying to make a fuss or enemies, but seriously,

when i said drag me into i mean they sit me down and involve me in their version of christmas or something

i DID NOT mean saying happy satan day or something - thats alrite- its the thought that counts

and its funny how you have a reply for everything - shows you are used to argueing over anything

*edit* i think you should read the posts he was refering to you complaining about merry christmas

How is it dragging you into it??

No one has sat you down and read the nativity story to you or tried to make you sing carols have they???
She was talking about the Satanist.

I did no such thing. I pointed out that a member of this forum (at least one) may be offended.

I used a satanist as an obvious example.

I did not compare saying Merry Christmas to satanism - that is just preposterous.

However you have taken a reasonable position and afforded satanists the same courtesy as you would Christians.

You are to be congratulated on your open mindedness.

Like I said earlier in the thread, I would not be best please if he were to start celebrating his dark festivals here. I think he should get the same treatment, it's only fair.
And earlier in the thread you moaned about saying Merry Christmas

It also depends how you view Christmas as I said earlier in the thread it is no longer a purely religous thing

Gemby!

thanks ! but i still think that you should calm down about people being offended

christmas is a huge time of year for all religions - wether you celebrate it or not

many people from different religions still give out some presents to others at this time - and im sure that many would not take offence in someone saying merry christmas

why should they ?

Christmas is a religious thing.

The whole holiday - turkey - card/presents is entirely secular and unrelated.

So like I said earlier. Happy holidays, to those who chose to celebrate at this time of ther year.

The whole holiday - turkey - card/presents is entirely secular and unrelated.

But the whole secular thing is still refered to as Christmas!!!!!!!!

this is why you take someone saying merry christmas as being offensive to others - i see the term merry christmas different and i include the meal , presents and cards in this - whatever the religion

its all part of christmas rite ?

J'Pol

My learned colleagues now have Christmas as a Secular Rite.

I give in and finally acquiesce to the inevitable conclusion. The world has indeed run mad.

the world is mad because christmas is a celebration by everyone

Very well said Gemby.

By saying Merry Christmas I was trying to convey my wishes for everyone to have a good time drinking, eating, getting presents and enjoy the seasonal festivities.

Yes very nice - except Jehovah's Witnesses are another group who positively do not celebrate Christmas.

So to say everyone is not only western biased, precluding the world's actual major religions, it is also wrong.

This time of year is the "holiday season" containing several major and I'm sure a few minor ones I don't even know about.

That is why I used the word "holidays", take your pick.

I am not Christain, but our family uses the vacation time granted to get together. So Christmas is usually the most convenient day.

Holiday season to me is secular, just a time to see friends and family and remember to recognize those luxuries we take for granted on a daily basis.

Anyway, "Happy Hoildays"

Fixed major holiday spelling error.
